Do names remind you of things like food, for example?

I was going to post this on AIBU, but whenever I've asked people in person whether or not names evoke thoughts of certain foods or objects, they've told me I'm weird or they don't know what the hell I'm on about so I know I'll be flamed haha.

Like for example, the name Robert reminds me of custard. And Melissa reminds me of penne pasta (HAS to be penne.) I could go on and on, and I don't think there would be a name that doesn't evoke some sort of food. It's actually how I decide whether I like certain names.
I can't explain why some names remind me of certain foods, except for more obvious ones like Albert- it reminds me of Broccoli, you can see why. And Diane reminds me of Steak Diane. Tony reminds me of Frosties. Some names remind me of a food that it sounds like- Kayleigh/ Jelly. But for some reason its always food!

Anyone else like this?

The name George reminds me of steak and ale pie , and Rebecca reminds me of Weetabix blocks.

Felicity reminds me of Viennetta lol

NooMyx- the food association thing can impact my feelings on certain names, like Matthew for example reminds me of really watery, wrinkled overcooked peas, and on that basis I don't like that name (sorry if anyone has any kin called Matthew)

Curtis - banana

Maybe a slightly odd one....but has ALWAYS (since swimming lessons age 5) reminded me of bananas!

MagicBaguette · 11/07/2013 22:35

George also makes me think of pie mayoandchips - I think that link must be because of the Georgia porgie song rhyme!

mayoandchips · 11/07/2013 22:36

extracrunchy, the food version of the names you give-

Richard- mini cheddars

Hannah- apple bubblegum

Sally- salad cream

Emma- vanilla ice cream

John- macaroni

Georgie... Sorry, autocorrect!

mayoandchips · 11/07/2013 22:38

Magic, the Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie thing makes sense. No idea why Steak and Ale though haha

Mewkins Francesca makes me think of the same thing! I wonder why...

steppemum · 12/07/2013 11:40

Oh - weetabix - that is very me actually (not sure why, but somehow it fits!!)

I love the idea that words create smells/tastes/colours and textures

One more for you all (would love to give you my whole family, but I am being restrained here!!)

Isaac?

NeedSomeSun142 · 12/07/2013 12:00

This is fascinating I've never heard of this before.

How about Jacob?

mayoandchips · 12/07/2013 23:20

Isaac- oysters/ clams

Jacob- Crackers

I think a lot of it is association, like jacobs cream crackers and jacob. Maybe the ones I cant explain are embedded in my subconscious without realising. Like maybe as a child, I knew a fishmonger named Isaac and have forgotten about him lol

That's brilliant, because somehow that actually fits - cannot say why though (and he doesn't really like shellfish!)

Spangles72 · 15/02/2020 23:09

I know this is a really old thread, but just wanted to say mayoandchips that I do this too! I’ve never googled it until tonight and that’s when I found your post on here. Most people’s names remind me of food, some obvious some not so, always just thought I was weird!!

Blursula · 16/02/2020 22:31

I can't say or hear the name Elliot without thinking of a big floppy omelette

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2020 19:21

George is Cheese. Cheddar George.

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2020 19:22

Gordon Zola

CharitySchmarity · 17/02/2020 23:54

I can't say this is something that happens to me all the time, but there are a a very few names that have always conjured up a food-related image for me. Selina is slightly overcooked vegetables being strained in a colander. Julie is cherries.

Milkwith1sugar44 · 18/02/2020 17:48

Here's some of my associations...

Lucy - ice lolly
Chloe - chocolate
Kate/ Katie - chocolate chip cookie
Niamh - lasagne

For some reason the name Erika makes me think of a cat being sick.

Iloveturkishdelight · 20/12/2020 11:24

Omg I have this food thing with peoples names and I’ve only just seen your thread. Some names are really obvious, some I have to think about what taste it is, it is a taste though! And some names mean nothing And there is no taste at all.
Ok so Claire, white milky bar chocolate the bar not buttons! Helen is a melon flavored boiled sweet, Steven is a gritty stone taste (I don’t eat stones) Martin is chocolate coated crisp shell peanuts. Hannah is cooked ham eaten cold, Emma is a chocolate covered strawberry roses. Jessica is cheesy pasta type stuff, some flavors I can’t describe but I know it’s a taste. I feel
Soo weird writing this! Cake

marypoppinsneedles · 20/12/2020 12:11

Yep!

Saskia = lasagna for me. Weird isn't it.

Iloveturkishdelight · 20/12/2020 14:18

I’ve read up on it! It’s called Synesthesia! Google it! So interesting!

Asumpasana · 15/01/2022 23:07

I know this is old but me too! Not for all names though, some names I have no association for. And also sometimes it isn't a name but a phrase or other random word. The ones off the top of my head:

Rebecca - rich tea biscuits
Trevor - Broad beans
Why not? - sausages
Calpol - good girl (this could well be an association formed as a small child though, like good girl for taking your medicine)

I do have others but often I don't remember them until they're triggered!

I think it is synesthesia, but generally that would involve a sense whereas just a word association isn't a sense (obviously)

Asumpasana · 15/01/2022 23:10

Oh and Lisa is fingernail clippings. Which isn't a food and is pretty random and weird but there we have it

MyCatStaresAtMe · 15/01/2022 23:19

Pat - mustard
Alan - a cheese wheel and toblerone

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 15/01/2022 23:27

Why is Albert obviously broccoli? Blush Grin I understand steak Diane and Diane but I think I’m missing something on broccoli!

WeasilyPleased · 16/01/2022 03:21

Yes! Not always food though. Sometimes flavours, colours, animals, smells. I keep it to myself as I'm worried people will think I'm attention seeking or bonkers! So glad to finally be able to admit it.
