I met a lovely little boy and his mum in the US, he was about 5 and was called Caspian.

Maybe a Narnia fan?

Karis is not Welsh, it's Greek meaning graceful. Sounds the same as the Welsh though which is the Welsh word for love.

Arithmeticulous · 30/01/2013 13:14

Galena · 30/01/2013 13:24

I also know of a family whose children are Blue (Boy), River (Boy) and Storm (Girl).

darksideofthemooncup · 30/01/2013 13:28

darksideofthemooncup · 30/01/2013 13:31

Cherish
Merlin
Tansy

My two have top 20 names, damn you dh and your lack of sense of adventure

MoonlightandRoses · 30/01/2013 14:01

Good to know someone else is using Galahad too - the chap who went with the name was a real gentleman, so I have nice associations with it.

Tiger - I also knew a Tansy growing up and a good friend is called Sorrel.

Dinosaurhunter · 30/01/2013 14:23

Blaze - my sisters friend
Bear - a friends new baby

cheapandchic · 30/01/2013 15:54

I love suvi too! Not a crazy name, just not one heard everyday.

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 31/01/2013 10:59

What about Blythe? I've only ever met one, though of course, there are the Blythe dolls. She also had a dd called Ivy, who is definately the only Ivy I have ever come across. But there was Ivy the terrible in the beano.

dontsqueezetheteabag · 31/01/2013 11:10

I know a Rodaidh (roddy)

LemonBreeland · 31/01/2013 12:03

I do know a Blaise. It is a French name.

Lilka · 31/01/2013 12:50

I don't think I've ever met someone with a completely unique name. I've seen plenty of unique names of people though. I know people with unusual or rare ones. I've known a Blythe.

My eldest daughter has a (I think) very rare name. I've never come across it in real life. I have however found quite a few peeople on facebook with her name, some in the UK, most abroad. Most people with it seem to be middle eastern. But it doesnt come up as a name when I google it. I would love to know the origins of it but just turned up blanks

singaporeswing · 31/01/2013 12:52

I LOVE Storm - it's my DMIL maiden name, so would love to incorporate it into future DCs names if possible.

I knew a Blanche growing up - her mum's maiden name was White and her dad was French, so it was the perfect name for her, really!

seeker · 31/01/2013 12:53

Aren't lots of these just names from other cultures? Aslan is a Turkish for example? And Nest is Welsh.

MrsHBaby3 · 31/01/2013 12:54

oh I know a Tequilla. In my sons school there is a boy called Jumper and a girl called Blueberry. Quite ridiculous if you ask me, all I can think is it must have been the preg hormones...!

MrsHBaby3 · 31/01/2013 12:57

I also know a Winsome (Carribean lady) which I love picturing how they chose that

Indith · 31/01/2013 13:04

Seeker yes, they are mostly from other cultures. The thread was just asking for names you've only ever heard once though rather than poking fun. That's how I took it anyway.

I love names, always so interesting what is deemed normal in one culture but not in another. Take Spain, you get surrounded by small boys called Jesus but imagine if anyone in the UK decided their child was worthy of being named after the son of God!

mimmymouse · 31/01/2013 13:20

Beata is a common name in Germany. Nice one too! I know a Gawaine. Top, old name. Nice man.

marriednotdead · 31/01/2013 13:29

I've met an Anniversary!

Know an Autumn. Also met a Bluesette.

Encountered an Orville in the past but apparently it's not that uncommon in the West Indies.

wiltingfast · 31/01/2013 14:44

Calla

Bosco

I really like Calla. Not if it's Kala?

QuietNinjaTardis · 31/01/2013 15:03

I heard a little girl being called Gemini the other day. I also knew of a baby years ago who was named something like finbarr dragon. Can't remember if there was another name as well. I also know a toddler called aslan who is Turkish s think it must be quite common rather than unusual!
