I met a lovely little boy and his mum in the US, he was about 5 and was called Caspian.

Maybe a Narnia fan?

I asked the leader at the group we were at and it was definitely pronounced "malice". They were a pagan family. I'-ve just googled this so its possible?

Or I've found "Malise" which I assume would be pronounced differently normally but it could be that....

Straws and clutching! Poor child...

Capucine isn't that strange in France. The head of DC's halte garderie is called Capucine and she is about 45.

Eymeric isn't so unusual in France, either. And Fabian is actually pretty common.

I didn't think you could register names with numbers in like 3littlebirds. Seems odd. Was it in the uk?

BinarySolo · 29/01/2013 11:20

Oh. My. Word

IsSpringSprangedYet · 29/01/2013 11:39

I've heard of some that are a bit odd and haven't heard of elsewhere, like Chavvy-Rose and Mowgli. There are a few that are lovely though and sound very old English.... (all toddlers)

Delphin (nicknamed Delfy)
Quillan
Brock
Brinsley
Coryn
Temperance

I worked with a Karis too.

DS had TWO Reds in his Reception year (two form entry). I bet both sets of parents believed their child would be unique at school!

I also knew a Desdemona as a teenager. Her sister and brother are Claire and John.

MaryQueenOfSpots · 29/01/2013 12:45

I had a childhood friend called Aminta. Not Araminta, Aminta. Never met another.

drfayray · 29/01/2013 13:01

My cousin ( in her 40s) is called Precious. She goes by her second name which is more common.
My own daughter has an unusual name; Lakshme. The Indian goddess of wealth and good fortune. Her friends call her Lucky Grin

sandypie1 · 29/01/2013 13:28

wow - Ive been looking for a memorable name - lots to ponder on now haha

BikeRunSki · 29/01/2013 18:11

Katia must be an imaginative spelling of the traditional Welsh "Carys" surely? Meaning "beloved " I think.

I know a Beata - Latin for "blessed". She is Scottish, but it may be more common in Latin countries.

BikeRunSki · 29/01/2013 18:11

Not Katia, Karis ...

FrameyMcFrame · 29/01/2013 18:19

My DD went to school with a Geronimo.

wigglybeezer · 29/01/2013 18:27

iheartmycat · 29/01/2013 23:06

MoonlightandRoses · 29/01/2013 23:27

aufaniae · 29/01/2013 23:49

portraitoftheartist Could it have been Osian? It's a Welsh name pronounced Osh-an. (It has nothing to do with the Ocean!)

chickensarmpit · 29/01/2013 23:58
