I met a lovely little boy and his mum in the US, he was about 5 and was called Caspian.

Maybe a Narnia fan?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know a Chiala, pronounced Kyle-ah. It's lovely, as is she.

I have also met a Hamishina and a Michaelina.

DH went to school with a Wraith.

I thought Demelza and Merryn were fairly uncommon, but I've known 2 of each.
My brother taught a Millenium once, and I've taught a Charnda (pronounced Shonday!)
I know a lady called Graine (German I believe, though she doesn't pronounce it as it should be said - Gronye)
But the ABSOLUTE BEST EVER has to be my friend's story - she works for an America insurance company and had to phone a woman who's name she couldn't figure out how to pronounce: La-a.
Turns out it should be pronounced 'LaDasha"
BRILLIANT!

DianaTrent · 31/01/2013 15:42

Grainne is an Irish name, plenty of them over there.

nightswimmer · 31/01/2013 16:00

I was at school with sisters Psyche and Mica. Their names suited their looks too, both beautiful girls with white blond hair.

KatieScarlett2833 · 31/01/2013 16:02

I have a stupid made up name Hmm

SGJ · 31/01/2013 16:09

Actually that makes perfect sense, if Graine is Irish and pronounced Gronye, I also know an Aine which he told me is Irish and is pronounced Onye. MOMENT OF ENLIGHTENMENT!!! Thanks Diana!

SGJ · 31/01/2013 16:09

*she

willyoulistentome · 31/01/2013 16:13

I know a Ciye. Prononced Kai.

Nice name - dreadful spelling.

willyoulistentome · 31/01/2013 16:13

i had a physics teacher called Xenon.

BrittaPerry · 31/01/2013 16:18

My sister taught a girl called Marvellous. I absolutely love that name, but her family are of African descent, I on't think it would work on my northern English with Irish ancestors kids...

SamSmalaidh · 31/01/2013 17:46

LaDasha is pure urban myth I'm afraid Grin

CaipirinhasAllRound · 31/01/2013 17:58

I knew a boy when I was young called PendaBede

Indith · 31/01/2013 19:17

Yes ladasha is urban myth.

I was once at a baby group with a teacher who was obviously lovely but also very nervous. When everyone was talking about names she told of a boy she once taught called Sol which she thought was fairly normal until his parents explained it was to stand for Stadium Of Light. That story I could kind of believe but then she rolled out the old Yvonne pronounced whyvonee and Ladasha. I expect the first story probably was true and then because it got a good reaction she carried on babbling.

iclaudius · 31/01/2013 20:52

Seeker can you tell me more about 'Nest'?

CaipirinhasAllRound · 31/01/2013 21:07

indith you just reminded me, we know someone whose daughter has Lanesra as her middle name - Arsenal backwards

Greenwing · 31/01/2013 21:32

Hyacinth
and
Keyna (a girl - pronounced like a key in the door - na)

Genevieve is not really that unusual but I have only ever met one.
(I would have liked to have met another - my fictional daughter!)

Greenwing · 31/01/2013 21:33

Oh yes, forgot - Vanya.
It was a girl which is odd considering 'Uncle Vanya'.

PercyClarke · 31/01/2013 21:44

I know a Biba.

DownyEmerald · 31/01/2013 21:46

I was at uni with a Caleche
and I've only ever met one Genevieve. I bet there are lots of fairly standard, not eyebrow raising names that aren't common.
Antigone - called Tiggy
Tiger-Lily.

InTheNightGarden · 31/01/2013 21:55

Dd called Nevaeh :)

But I've since met another Nevaeh!

InTheNightGarden · 31/01/2013 22:01

Also heard of 2 baby boys locally being called:
Diesel and jedeye (star wars!)

fuckitfuckitfuckit · 31/01/2013 22:07

I wanted to call DD Lancelot if she was a boy. Blush

I've met a Glastonbury, named because she was conceived at Glastonbury festival.
I went to school with a Cupid (girl) and a boy with Emily as one of his middle names.
Possibly just outed myself.

zcos · 31/01/2013 23:01

Stean ...,a family name.

RustyBear · 31/01/2013 23:05

I know twins called Aprilla and Dabriella.

And another pair called Tamora and Thistlerose.

Galena · 01/02/2013 08:20

I used to work with someone who swore blind that a not-very-bright parent came to parents' evening with their new baby called 'Goo-y'. Turned out it was Guy but they'd only seen the name, never heard it said.

However, that colleague used to stretch the truth regularly, so I don't believe her!
