I met a lovely little boy and his mum in the US, he was about 5 and was called Caspian.

Maybe a Narnia fan?

I went to school with a family of children with bird-names. Robin was about two years older than me (boy), Raven was in my year and it really suited him - he had jet black straight hair and brown eyes, Heron was a year younger than me. Wren was their older sister and had already left school by the time I was going there. I've never met another Wren, Robin, Raven or Heron.

I went to a rather hippy school and my classmates included: Allegra Rainbow, Chantelle, Misty, Rainy, Stormy, Windy, Hayden, Hyden, Morning, Evening, Celeste, Ilke, Dagen, Dane (he was huge, and you always thought "Great Dane"). There were about 1,600 pupils at my high school, I just can't remember all the unusual names right now.....

I knew a pinkie, she will be about 55/60 now I think. that's the most unusual I know.

I am up for an unusual name for the bump, DH will take some convincing.

I remember my cousin saying his friend had called his son Red. This was in the mid 80s - never met Red and have never heard of another (except Red Buttons)

I know a little 6 yr old named velvet and a 4 yo named leafy Blush

I am coming late to this thread but re Narnia I think CS Lewis intended Aslan to be the essence of power and majesty-if you like he epitomised "Lion" rather than it just being a name :-) .
Fwiw I have a cat named Kedi which is Turkish for cat. I chose it because it sounds pretty and exotic for my oriental cat.

binary chengiz khan is considered to be a hero in some countries. They have statues of him up in Mongolia.

greencolorpack · 28/01/2013 23:38

I heard of a "Furious" once.

courgetteDOTcom · 28/01/2013 23:51

I went to school with Sadam Hussein!

I love Star Trek names and there was a few growing up I liked but when I had children decided against it, my husband wanted to call our second daughter Nerys in the DS9 pronunciation but I refused - as much as I love the name. Also loving some of the Game of Thrones names. I just can't name my child a made up name from a TV show!

Scruffalo · 29/01/2013 00:15

I recently met a 3 year old Lancelot.

CanIHaveAPetGiraffePlease · 29/01/2013 00:31

A Raven with a sister that sounds like, but can't possibly be, Malice.

I thought someone introduced their child as Lochia (I'd just given birth and was shocked) but I think it was Lockyer!

I know a lovely Kalel (mother didn't know what it was when dad named him) but I've heard from mumsnet there's more than one!

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 29/01/2013 00:34

I always wanted to use 'the names: Eskarina, Perdita and Sahara. Stbex would not agree though. DS and DD do have pretty unique names which I am not going to mention as they would out me to anyone who knows me!
I went to school with a Rumia and a siekie, Spelt something like that.
I have come across a child called Dante before. I met someone today called Kwarme.
There's loads more but I can't think of them at the moment.

mayanna123 · 29/01/2013 10:26

Some names really do sound 'unique' and I find them hard to believe - God, Shadow and Jesusloves me...?! Really?

But others seem fairly common round here and I certainly know more than one Caspian, Fabian, Quentin, Hayden and Celeste for example.

How about Blanche - I knew one from the US but have never heard it since.

BikeRunSki · 29/01/2013 10:30

Surely 'Malice' must be Mariss or Alice?

Pasiphae · 29/01/2013 10:34

I have met a Boheme, Jenelle, Aude, Emeric, Fox, Zia, Yeva, Paisley, Ulysses, Capucine, Aglaé, Zélie mostly in Franc.

CoteDAzur · 29/01/2013 11:09

I know an Aurora (15) and knew a Quentin (about 50 when I met him in early '90s)
