Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

Urgh, Toby is the worst. So drippy.

Names I can't stand for no particular reason:

Charlie
Paul
Kevin
Keith
Steven
Fin (a Fin will never be the head of a major corporation)

Catherine (mainly the sound of it...Cath just doesn't sound nice)
Laura
Poppy (just so babyish!)
Evie
Elizabeth
Amelia (I too don't get the popularity!)

PrunellaDeVille · 16/11/2012 19:27

Haystack · 16/11/2012 22:07

How could I have forgotten Charles?

Quip · 16/11/2012 22:20

I have never been very keen on Zlartibartfast, but with that excepted I like to find something beautiful in all names, even ones I wouldn't choose for my own kids.

thisthreadwilloutme · 16/11/2012 22:25

How could I forget

Billie Jo (BJ for short.... BJ!!!!!!)

marriedinwhite · 16/11/2012 22:26

ha haystack spot on. My favourite girl's name was for years Camilla. Just didn't seem right after if you know what I mean so DD didn't get it.

kilmuir · 16/11/2012 22:29

joseph
caitlin
lauren
archie

anothercuppaplease · 16/11/2012 22:31

Ethan. Nathan. Lois. Holly. No reason whatsoever, just don't like the names.

Icyalittle · 16/11/2012 22:42

Martin. Had to sit next to him in primary school and he smelled. (Yes, not his fault, but we were 5)

hudjes · 16/11/2012 22:44

??? What a spiteful thread.

FishTrouserElephantInPeking · 16/11/2012 22:44

Blake, Blake, Blake, Blake... It's just a noise not a name.
Paige, Archie - just no
Dawn, Ruth - I almost fall asleep saying them

marriedinwhite · 16/11/2012 22:53

Both my DC have been mentioned hudjes. TBF I didn't find it offensive. There is a poster I know who has a child with a name I detest; in fact I think it's vile. Now if I were to mention that because I knew she would see it that would be spiteful.

CindySherman · 17/11/2012 08:44

Clarence is a great name!

RVPisnomore · 17/11/2012 08:51

Emily
Emma

Simon
Peter
Otto

melliebobs · 17/11/2012 09:09

Dds names not up there. Yey

Anyway. I hate Marc. With a C? I mean really?! Never trust a Marc with a c

Ham69 · 17/11/2012 09:43

I would assume Marc with a 'c' was a shortened version of Marcus.

Brugmansia · 17/11/2012 10:06

Jack - I am truly perplexed about why it seems so popular these days.

flowerygirl · 17/11/2012 10:23

A relation of mine has a son called Benjamin James. His Mum and Dad call him BJ! Everytime I hear it I snigger but they don't get how inappropriate it is!

goralka · 17/11/2012 10:30

u are joking right flowerygirl?
Ben is such a wet name too.
