Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 14/11/2012 23:29

Oh and I dislike
Girls - Sharon
Boys - Nigel

GreatOdinsRaven · 14/11/2012 23:32

I think regional or national accent has a lot to do with it- e.g. Georgette in a french accent.

Some accents kill names

Kettle of fish officially opened...

manicinsomniac · 14/11/2012 23:37

My name is on here quite a bit (Rebecca) as is my younger daughter (Jessica)

Older daughter safe so far and yet she's the one with the most commonly condemned name , both in real life and on here. Weird.

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/11/2012 23:45

Romeo with an Italian accent? Fabulous.

Romeo with pretty much any British accent...no.

datingthedevil · 15/11/2012 02:22

I personally don't like names that end with the 'e' sound. My ex was a chav called Danny, he had a sister called vicky and a brother called mikey. So it was danneeee, vickeeeee, mikeeeee. He called his children bobbeeeeeee and rosieeeee.
When I found out I was pregnant I was determined to not do the same. The name had to have a definite end to it - so Benjamin / Ben, Alex etc. I've now decided on Joshua / josh.

It wasn't so much the eee sound that irritated me, it was more the way he yelled it out in public. It was so embarrassing. I couldn't have him to the same with our ds.

Joiyuk · 15/11/2012 02:48

My mum made it on here, as did my middle name and my DHs middle name Grin my DS name isn't though, yippee!

I hate the Jayden, raiden, Hayden and all other variations of that damn name. Ugh.

I actually saw someone had called their child princess chardennay (her spelling, not mine) which I think is tantamount to child abuse.

Chantelle
Chardonnay
Double barrelled names (Olivia-rose etc, no need!)
Rhys
Tony
Mandy/Amanda
Charley/Charlie
Charles (hate this name with a passion!!!)
Louisa
Crystal
Cheryl
Geri
Gertrude

I think I could sit here all night, I've just realised what a truly fussy and snobby bitch I really am Grin

WildEyedAndScaryAsFeck · 15/11/2012 03:00

I was going to say my own name but I see it and its variations have already been mentioned at least four times. Grin Hate it for no reason whatsoever and still thinking about changing it officially even though I'm in my mid forties.

Also, 2for1 names like Sammy-Jo, Sarah-Louise, Ellie-May etc.

Ahardyfool · 15/11/2012 13:04

Geraldine. It was the name of my dear, sadly deceased, Aunt and she was a lovely lady. Highly irrational.

CindySherman · 15/11/2012 13:13

Caleb- it sounds like Table to me. Just a pointless sound.

SrirachaGirl · 16/11/2012 02:13

I have a new one Grin.

Heard today being shouted across the playground: "Boden! Boden!".

NOT kidding. To be fair, we're not in the UK, so not the same association here for most, but it still made me giggle...I had to pretend that i was coughing into my mittens.

Actually, I don't know if it could be classed as an entirely inoffensive name...

SomersetONeil · 16/11/2012 02:22

I remember somebody starting a thread on here once about the name Beaudon - maybe it's them...? Hmm Grin

They inevitably got the piss ripped by everyone saying it sounded like Boden.

SrirachaGirl · 16/11/2012 02:33

I'm not sure which is worse Grin.

LST · 16/11/2012 07:15

DSs name is here now and DPs and my 3 cats and dog Grin

My name isn't though [smug]

honeytea · 16/11/2012 07:30

Boden is a town in Sweden (random)

badtime · 16/11/2012 10:08

For no good reason, I hate any girls name which has I double-letter-then-an-e which is not needed for pronunciation.

Isabel - nice; Isabelle - horrible
Vivien - nice; Vivienne - horrible
Juliet - nice; Juliette - horrible

(Obviously, this does not apply to e.g. Danielle or Gabrielle)

This is just a prejudice, but I always think it's weird that I love Vivien and Juliet, but hate Vivienne and Juliette.

tammytoby · 16/11/2012 13:18

Boden is ground in German.

tammytoby · 16/11/2012 13:21

Getting tired of cutesy names - Lilly, Milly, Ellie, Poppy, Archie, Alfie, Artie, Bertie, Freddie etc.

hattymattie · 16/11/2012 13:24

I had a really funny conversation with an American yesterday - she said her name was Barbie!! I said "Barbie like the doll" and she said no "Barbie - and spelt it B o b b i e" - so much for the difference between British and American accents; Grin.

MrsBungleBear · 16/11/2012 14:57

Thought of.another name I hate for no reason - Toby. Yuk.
