Lynn

I have a dd and a ds already. We are dutch speakers and our children have dutch names. It's a pain having to constantly correct spellings though. So this time we are looking for short names that work in both languages.
What do you think of Lynn for a girl? Any other suggestions for short (phonetic) names?

I think Lynn is a bit dowdy in England. It reminds me of Alan Partridge's PA "Lynn! It's hotter than the sun!" Grin

How about Anne? Jess? Kate? Beth?

LeFreak · 16/09/2012 23:34

I think you can do better than Lynn

Yourefired · 16/09/2012 23:35

Agrees Lynn has conitations of dull in the uk (sorry auntie Lynn).

Thanks all. I am glad I asked! The only Lynn i know writed musicals for kids, has a dd who is a well known opera singer and a ds who is an actor. So I didn't associate it with dull Grin
Shame because it is quite hip in my country now, though still rare.
I quite like Kara from the suggestions below. The Dutch name I really like is Nore, but Dh likes Noor. We had planned on Roos (dutch versiin of Rose) but my cousin just had a baby dd Roos.
I'll compile a list of potentials and let MN pass judgement again soon :).

Just realised that the Lynn I know is in fact Lin. Would that be better?

Nora is gaining popularity in the UK if that is any use?

MrsjREwing · 17/09/2012 10:24

Kara and Nore sound lovely.

TudorJess · 17/09/2012 11:15

How about Nina?

MmeLindor · 17/09/2012 11:23

I am a Lynn and my name is indeed very boring.

I would like to be a Caroline or Grace.

The Dutch women I have known were called Greetje and Wilma, which I presume to be the Dutch equivalent of Lynn.

Lynn, Linda, Jane, Elaine, Melanie, Audrey ... typical 1970s babies.

squoosh · 17/09/2012 12:38

Lynn is terribly dull.

squoosh · 17/09/2012 12:39

I love Tess.

TuesdayNightClub · 17/09/2012 14:55

Aw I am a lone voice on rather liking Lynn. I have a young glamourous cousin called Lynn and think its very pretty. In the same vein as Lucy.

Seriously do not choose Nora over Lynn! Shock Nora is way more old lady. Without the chic.

lynniep · 17/09/2012 15:04

I'm a Lynn too. Can you tell? Its not very exciting. But it is fairly rare round these parts. I was going to be Alexandra, which I prefer - dunno why they changed their mind (although I'm half Thai so it could have been much much worse imo) Kara is prettier. So is Nina.

InkleWinkle · 17/09/2012 15:13

Needs an 'e' = Lynne

Much better Wink

Lionsntigersnbears · 17/09/2012 15:52

In its defence, Lynne/Lyn/Lin is a good middle name - scans well and trips off the tongue. But no, it's a family name for my family and I did avoid it as a bit meh when naming my DD. what about Evelyn?

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange · 17/09/2012 16:40

Awful.

50 year old civil servant.

SrirachaGirl · 17/09/2012 16:47

How about Lena or Anja?

InkleWinkle · 17/09/2012 16:57

Oi! I am nowhere near 50 and am not a civil servant!

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange · 17/09/2012 17:16

Sorry Blush

MmeLindor · 17/09/2012 23:02

Tuesday
You are all alone. I am Lynn and don't like the name.

DizziDoll · 17/09/2012 23:20

I like Lena but can't use it as it was my cousin's name and she passed away in a very tragic way and a young age.
Anja is the Dutch version of Lynn :)
Very middle aged and boring (as is Sonja). It's hard having to think of 2 languages. Nore and Kara are on the list.
Now for boy's names Grin
