the name Lucifer is a beautiful one, but would you be brave enough to use it considering that it is the biblical name for the devil?
I'm not sure i would.

No, I wouldn't. No more would I use Adolf. There are plenty of beautiful names. How about Lucien if you like that kind of sound?

CoteDAzur · 10/09/2012 20:54

Please tell me you are joking.

Balderdashandpiffle · 10/09/2012 20:57

What about Beelzebub?

You could call him my little Bubs.

nightswimmer · 10/09/2012 20:58

No. And it wouldn't be brave, it would be a blight on your child's life. But there are always crazy people in the world who would do something like that .

Springforward · 10/09/2012 20:59

No, it's cruel to the child.

TodaysAGoodDay · 10/09/2012 20:59

No, certainly not for a boy anyway, he will get called Luci/Lucy for short. If it didn't have the associated connotations, then yes, it is a pretty name, but not as it is.

Ilovedaintynuts · 10/09/2012 20:59

Anus is also lovely (pronounced A-noos).

No. There are some names that are just a no-no.

cookielovesorange · 10/09/2012 21:00

I do think the name is pretty, however i would never use it.

DP likes the name Caleb as he is the son of the devil Hmm

happybubblebrain · 10/09/2012 21:01

No, definately not. Lucian is a really nice name though.

I think it's a lovely name. I am not religious so it doesn't hold that connection for me. However the connotations of the name are far to heavy to burden a child with. If an adult chooses the name that is up to them. But I would not call my child any name with such a strong historical connection that is still very real for some people. Lucien is equally as lovely and far less controversial.

happybubblebrain · 10/09/2012 21:03

* definitely * - ooooops, just in case the spelling police are out in force tonight. Mumsnet needs to introduce a spellchecker.

PoppadomPreach · 10/09/2012 21:05

I think fuckface would be a better name than lucifer.

RikersBeard · 10/09/2012 21:06

Er no. I always wondered about Cain as well though (although obviously less controversial than Lucifer). Since he is a biblical baddie. But people don't seem to mind.

bugster · 10/09/2012 21:06

'lovely name'? Call your child the devil and it's lovely? Can you people possibly be for real?

2girls2dogs · 10/09/2012 21:11

oh just call him Adolf-Osama-Gengis-lucifer-the great and be done with it

My DD is called Lucy, she is named after the patron saint of light

2girls2dogs · 10/09/2012 21:12

oh, i couldnt call my child damien either because of the film and only fools and horses

Cremolafoam · 10/09/2012 21:12

Um
NO

DisabilEightiesChick · 10/09/2012 21:13

cookielovesorange Caleb the son of the devil? Where's that from? I only know the one in the Bible who is Joshua's sidekick.

Redbindy · 10/09/2012 21:15

We had a cat called Lucifer she was great. It's a brilliant name, go ahead and don't worry about other peoples opinions. Remember there is no devil and there is no god.

cookielovesorange · 10/09/2012 21:19

Sorry Disabil in a show, not the bible (i've never read the bible so bit clueless on that one)
