Lanesra... ok, so it was a middle name - Dad was an Arsenal fan.

Jordanna.

HappyOrchid · 30/08/2012 13:45

I know several kids (some teens now) with unusual names that at first I have gone WTF, but now I don't really notice.

Chad
Ace
Horatio
twins called Summer and Storm, both nice names, but together?
A girl called Ryan

I'm not keen on old fashioned names such as Elsie or Mabel or old mens names with 'ie' added on the end such as:

Alfie, Reggie, Ronnie, Lennie

I really dislike alternative spellings, if you want to call your child Tequila, then fine, but at least know how it's spelled.

HappyOrchid · 30/08/2012 13:47

When I worked in the USA I was served by a lady with the name badge Tiasia.
I puzzled for ages on how to pronounce it & in the end I asked.

Tie-Asia she replied looking at me like I was a nutter.

JustSpiro · 30/08/2012 13:58

Taking away the fact it's Arsenal spelt backwards for a moment, I'm not sure if I think Lanestra is quite pretty or sounds like a contraceptive pill.

DH was nearly a Chad but ended up with a very average, common name thanks to MIL's intervention! Grin

DrSeuss · 30/08/2012 14:13

Friend's new neice is Ebony. Child is milk white. Am I the only one to find this odd?

Cherrypieplum · 30/08/2012 14:15

Triplets Costa, Della and Sol

Charisma

DrSeuss · 30/08/2012 14:16

A niece, even.
Another friend has a niece called Beau. As a French teacher, I just had to bite my tongue.

TequilaMockinBird · 30/08/2012 14:16

Jedi. A beautiful baby girl too.

TheMonster · 30/08/2012 14:17

Bluesuedestilletto, are you in west yorks? I know of an mj too.

crabb · 30/08/2012 14:19

Can we please acknowledge that Levi is a Biblical name and long pre-dates the jeans brand?

McKayz · 30/08/2012 14:20

I'm very tempted by Lanesra Grin

Someone I used to work with has a daughter called Elland. After the Leeds United ground.

sometimessunshine · 30/08/2012 14:24

At a baby group I attended there were a few names that made me Grin
Bird
Zuzu
Blaze
They are all girls names.

BigHairyFlowers · 30/08/2012 14:27

Olivia.

Shoshe · 30/08/2012 14:30

Brother is a 48 year old Denholm, pronounced Denim, it is my mothers maiden name (he is also a top research scientist)

His twin has a name with a 'different' spelling of a fairly common name for its day, he is now a Police Inspector

Neither name stopped them being successful.

And my DD's name has come up on here. With a ALTERNATE spelling.

Each to their own.

squoosh · 30/08/2012 14:30

Florence and Harriet make me cringe.

DessieLou · 30/08/2012 14:34

I know a boy called Leaf...I'm pretty sure when he hits his teens he'll start calling himself Lee! Poor kid.

mathanxiety · 30/08/2012 14:38

Duly acknowledged, Crabb.

Giddypants · 30/08/2012 14:43

I know a sister and brother called meadow and arry

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 14:46
