thebeesnees79 · 30/08/2012 11:05

Felix

thixotropic · 30/08/2012 11:15

I know a Nike.

Unfortunately his parents didn't check their Greek mythology.

bronzeMedal · 30/08/2012 11:18

I like the name Levi
It was on my list but the reaction from other people wasn't good
it would have fitted with my two other sons names which aren't the denim diesel type but two disciples names

chipmonkey · 30/08/2012 11:26

There were at least three Pocahontas's born in Dublin the year ds1 was born.

When I type that, I feel it should be Pocahonti, for some reason!Grin

Mostly it is just a matter of taste. There's nothing wrong with Ivy at all but it wouldn't be something I would pick.

usualsuspect · 30/08/2012 11:27

I went to school with a Levi, many years ago so it's by no means a new faddy type name.

brandysoakedbitch · 30/08/2012 11:30

I know an Ozric and an Armaani Blu, also a Chrystal who's surname is Bone - born for (porn) stardom with a name like that! My children all have statistically unusual names but there is a difference between unusual and plain bloody awful. I also know a posh Candida but always makes me think of itchy fanjo!

bronzeMedal · 30/08/2012 11:31

There's a candida in pulp

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 11:32

Gilbert - never really liked that name.

I heard a mum shouting for little Tayzer/Taizer/Tazer. Never heard that before.

SoggySummer · 30/08/2012 11:32

There was a Britnay at our summer play scheme. I saw heard the name being called out and just thought someone was saying Britney a bit weirdly but then I saw her name badge and it was definately Britnay - said how it is spelt!

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 11:35

Candida just makes me think of Candide (operetta).

I get confused when people take a name and change the spellings. Sometimes it can take a while to work out the pronunciation.

Ptolemy for a boy is totally dreadful. Can't think of any girls names that are too dire. There's a lot I don't like.

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 11:39

Ptolemy... Well I suppose the parents are aiming for highbrow. It was probably quite common at one stage in history

Funny how some 'old' names are still not too eyebrowraising (like Cleopatra) but some are.

drjohnsonscat · 30/08/2012 11:42

Crutcher

(American boy).

coldfuchsia · 30/08/2012 11:42

Thomasina and Rupert. Thomasina is fucking awful. Rupes was an attempt to signal the child as upper class when they were anything but.

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 11:43

Wasn't Tomasina Pollyannas cat?

Cremolafoam · 30/08/2012 11:44

Dd has friend called AceHmm
I work with an Asumpta ( I know it's a cultural thing but always makes me think of consumption)

Who is it who has a kid called Moon Unit?

bronzeMedal · 30/08/2012 11:44

Frank Zappa

Cremolafoam · 30/08/2012 11:46

Yess! Old frank .lol

choccyp1g · 30/08/2012 11:51

Boris
Barack
Condoleeza
Sebastion Newbold Coe

Can't imagine anyone with names like that getting anywhere in a serious job can you?

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 11:53

Davis Bowie's son Zowie strangely changed his name to Joe.

ithastobeNAICEham · 30/08/2012 11:56

About to completely out myself here

Blaze
ocean blu
Lilly con
And finally, Charles v11 (he is the first Charles in the family for 4 generations!!)

These names are in my family (so ashamed) :(

curiousgeorgie · 30/08/2012 11:58

There's a little boy in my Gymboree class called Edam. We all wear name badges and so when I first heard it I tried desperately to look at the sticker on his back... And there it was... EDAM. So odd.

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 12:00

Cheesy!
