Is this too "out there"? Have liked it since I heard of that actress James King.

Would you call your son Shirley or Marion?

If you wouldn't then don't call your daughter James or Elliott.

JustFabulous · 28/08/2012 16:12

I think it would be a very cruel thing to do and you will spend your life saying "no, it is my daughter" and she will spend her life saying "Yes, that is my name" before changing it to a girl's name once she is old enough.

If you like it so much, Jamie is a compromise.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/08/2012 18:04

I used to know a couple called Hillary & Vivian. Guess which one was the man. G'wan...

MigratingCoconuts · 28/08/2012 18:06

Ermmmm...

Floggingmolly · 28/08/2012 18:07

I'd guess they both were, Smegs. They're both unisex names, but James categorically is not!

0lympia · 28/08/2012 18:09

Jamy like Amy with a J in front of it maybe. I knew a Juliet and I found out that her really name was James, so it's been done before. I don't know why you would though.

MigratingCoconuts · 28/08/2012 18:10

My errmmm was at the choice of James for a girl.

Nifty xpost though!

exoticfruits · 28/08/2012 18:11

Mean - they will continually get put on the wrong lists for things.

InkyBinky · 28/08/2012 18:12

No no no no noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 28/08/2012 18:17

Quite ridiculous. Why on earth would you do this other than to be attention seeking.

Blatherskite · 28/08/2012 18:25

I heard of a girl called James when I was younger and always thought it would be a lovely name for a girl...

But I think it's far too popular as a boys name at the moment and would cause all sorts of grief unless you are very, very posh.

I always liked Fred for a girl too but the one I knew of was shortened from Winifred which I wasn't so keen on.

I know of 2 men called Kim and Stacy and I know they get the mickey taken for their names so I guess it would work the other way too.

What about Ashley/Ashleigh? Lee/Leigh? Harry/Harriet?

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 18:41

out there=wanky pretentious
why would you do that
at a push jamie

bellamysbride · 28/08/2012 18:45

Love it, but my son has a 'wanky' name so don't listen to me Grin.

seeker · 28/08/2012 18:49

But is the wanky name Susannah?

EightiesChick · 28/08/2012 18:52

I think the fact that Olympia knew a woman who was 'really' a James but who calls herself Juliet is telling. That's what'll happen. She'll think of a different name to use once she's old enough.

EightiesChick · 28/08/2012 18:53

James King isn't well known enough for it to cross over into mainstream use for girls, either.

jasminetatu · 28/08/2012 18:54

I actually love it for a girl. Just to throw a spanner in the works Wink

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 28/08/2012 18:56

Jaime is a Spanish boy's name... Ming you, the Beckhams gave their Ds3 (?) a Spanish girl's name... clearly money can't buy you brains

CaseyShraeger · 28/08/2012 18:57

J King's name is Jaime. She briefly changed it to James for professional purposes, then very quickly changed it back. Which I think tells you a lot about whether she found it to be adorably "out there" or not.

bellamysbride · 28/08/2012 18:58

I have heard of James King, utterly beautiful.

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 18:58

it's as out there as boy called sue

cheesesarnie · 28/08/2012 18:58

myself and all four of my sisters were supposed to be called james.
when i had my first ds he was james. my dd (who is my eldest) was not james.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 28/08/2012 18:59

Mind! Damn you AUTOCORRECT!!! Hahaha

lovechoc · 28/08/2012 19:08

Not a fan of this, sorry.

Pallindrome · 28/08/2012 19:09

Does no-one else remember the friends episode where Ross & Rachel are trying to decide on baby names??

Rachel: what about James?
Ross: ooh James yes
Rachel: for a girl
Ross: VETO!

First thing I thought when I saw the thread title!
