Is this too "out there"? Have liked it since I heard of that actress James King.

Only if you then go on to have a son called Jemima.

PandaWatch · 28/08/2012 14:46

James for a girl is ridiculous.

Norman, on the otherhand... Grin

Around the turn of the last century (1900's) there was a fad for naming women after their fathers, by "feminising" the name, so lots of Thomasina, Williamina, Jamesina?

hattymattie · 28/08/2012 14:56

Jaime Summers - she was the Bionic Woman - thought she was dead cool when I was young (I think this is a roundabout way of saying go for Jaimie).

James - will give her problems for all the above mentioned reasons.

Haberdashery · 28/08/2012 14:58

How about Sid/Sidonie?

Kewcumber · 28/08/2012 15:03

Never mind whether you like it or not... she will spend her life turning up to events, matches etc to find she's been allocated to the boys team/dorm etc - and will I predict change her name by deed poll at 18 due to the midnumbing irriatation at explaining to every person on teh phone that yes her name is James and no she is a girl.

IDontKnowWhereMyMedalsAre · 28/08/2012 15:03

Nooooooooo. There are far too many James' already. Once I asked a friend who had mentioned there were 5 James in her sons class why the school hadnt spread them out and she said, theres 4 in the other class! so deffo too many james already even though Ds is called James Blush

Kewcumber · 28/08/2012 15:03

Eddi - Sedonia (eg Eddi Reader)

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 28/08/2012 15:04

Too out there.

StormGlass · 28/08/2012 15:04

No, no, no, no, no, no, no!!!!!!!!

James is a boys name. The 8th most popular boys name in England & Wales, and the 3rd most popular boys name in Scotland, at that. Everyone will think she's a boy before they meet her. She'll have to be constantly correcting them.

If you really want a tomboy sort of name, then at least pick a girl's name that can have a more boyish nickname. Like Charlotte, Georgina, Stephanie and so on...

noddyholder · 28/08/2012 15:05

She is beautiful I also like it People are too rigid about names

EightiesChick · 28/08/2012 15:05

Bad idea. Great list in an earlier post though of names that generate a boyish nn.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 28/08/2012 15:18

How about looking at some of the more American unisex names- like Bailey or Morgan or Adrian. Or Alexandra (Alex). Jamie.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 28/08/2012 15:19

Here you go

FergusSingsTheBlues · 28/08/2012 15:23

you could go the scottish route and call her Jamesina. Thomasina is also another fave amongst the old weegie grannies. Very unattractive pronunciation though - rhymes with vagina.

countrybumpkin2 · 28/08/2012 15:25

Fergus I was just going to say that. My great Aunt is Jamesina but she is just know as Ina.

Thumbwitch · 28/08/2012 15:28

Jaime or Jamie = ok for a girl.
James - no. Bit like the boy named Sue.

Margerykemp · 28/08/2012 15:29

Oscar used to be a girls name and Clare used to be a boys name.

things change

maybe your great granddaughter will be james

SunnilyEnough · 28/08/2012 15:38

How about Sydney? Lovely and sort of 1920s.

Thumbwitch · 28/08/2012 15:39

Shirley and Marion were boys' names too but I don't think I'd like to take the risk with either these days.

DizzyBeeisSchoolShoeShopping · 28/08/2012 15:43

Very much too "out there"
How about Jamie? Could be either, though I still wouldn't consider it for a girl.

GnocchiNineDoors · 28/08/2012 15:44

What about Elliott?
