I think there are probably no baby girls called:
Andrea
Lisa
Joanne
Thelma
Michelle
Kelly
Amanda
Tracy
Karen
Tina
Wendy

If we want to be post modern we should start a revolition no names ending in 'ia' or double barrelled with Mae on the end.

I know several Marthas, a couple of Elsies one olive and a baby Florence.

Never met a Doreen under the age of about 75 though!

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 16/07/2012 09:55

AnnaNimitty · 16/07/2012 10:46

I was under the impression that this was about GIRL'S names. Since when
have Richard and Rodney been girl's names? Or are you trying to be funny?

motherofallhangovers · 16/07/2012 11:03

AnnaNimitty.

I was answering this post

"Ample Sun 15-Jul-12 21:49:11
Male equivalents?"

Although as I was posting, I did consider Rodney as a girls name and that made me Grin

I think it takes a couple of generations for names to come round again. So there are names that only babies and 90 years olds have.

seeker · 21/07/2012 22:37

For example, 50 years ago, my mother was talked out of calling me Emily, because it was such an ugly, old fashioned, awful name that would never come back! So she called me Cathleen, which was modern and trendy (!). Then about 50% of my generation called their daughters Emily. And I am confident that Csthleen, which I think is the worst name in the world will be ludicrously popular in the next generation.

Sabriel · 21/07/2012 22:38

I've come across a few baby Tracys since Hairspray.

Cloudminnow · 21/07/2012 22:41

Debbie
Dawn
Heather
Sandra

Devora · 21/07/2012 22:46

Hazel is very pretty, toobreathless Smile.

I've always liked the name Tracy. There's something very cool about it - Tracy Thorn, Tracy from the Philadelphia Story etc. It sounds casual, devil-may-care, wind in your hair, not trying too hard.

Viviennemary · 21/07/2012 22:51

Mildred
Vernonica
Barbara
Susan
Hilary
Margaret
Mabel

StephIsHere · 21/07/2012 22:59

I don't hear any Susan's, Amanda's or Lindsey's.

MulberryMoon · 21/07/2012 23:29

I know a little Clare. She is beautiful. Have also come across a baby Julie in my local town a few times.

thegreylady · 22/07/2012 15:58

Valerie

edam · 22/07/2012 16:07

Hilda. I don't know why Ivy and Edith and other Victorian/Edwardian/between the wars names have come back but not Hilda. Makes me a bit wistful as my Great-Aunt Hilda was one of the most fantastic people I've ever known. Although to be fair she disliked her name and changed it to Penny when she went into a nursing home. Changing your name at the age of 92 - very Auntie Hilda, never too old to do something in her book. Grin

edam · 22/07/2012 16:08

... and for male names, Colin and Kenneth.
