I think there are probably no baby girls called:
Andrea
Lisa
Joanne
Thelma
Michelle
Kelly
Amanda
Tracy
Karen
Tina
Wendy

If we want to be post modern we should start a revolition no names ending in 'ia' or double barrelled with Mae on the end.

Mary. I'm hoping Downton Abbey changes things, it's such a beautiful name. Also Maria and Marie, but I don't like Marie as much.

I think male names are less faddy.

SurprisinglyCurvaceousPirate · 15/07/2012 21:55

My cousin's 4 yr old is called Helen and I recently met a 3 yr old Claire/Clare so I think these names are both being used, albeit not as much as they used to be.

I really don't like a lot of the very girlie names that are around now so I hope some of the more classic ones do come back.

I know a baby Eric. I reported this to my name-obsessed friends with the comment "I hope it is a family name."

Also a Carol (actually Carol-Ann, 18mo), ditto.

OhTheConfusion · 15/07/2012 22:01

It has been quite some time since I came accross a Sally.

speckledpig · 15/07/2012 22:05

I was born in 1980 and my name is Martha. There wre very few of us about then. I think it is a little more popular now thoug.

exoticfruits · 15/07/2012 22:06

I know quite a few mentioned, and would choose some of them myself e.g Mary has now made a comeback.
I would say
Maureen
Doreen
Linda
Brenda
Barbara

Irene
Angela
Mavis
Ethel
Mildred
Muriel
Sheila
Beryl
Patricia
Pamela

I went to school with a Sally. And a Martha.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/07/2012 22:30

I know two young Marthas.

OhTheConfusion · 15/07/2012 22:30

Selky · 15/07/2012 22:31

Lorraine
Denise
Beverley
Frances
Elsie

exoticfruits · 15/07/2012 22:31

Martha is another popular one in our area.

TeaandHobnobs · 15/07/2012 22:35

Vera, Irene and Hazel (my grandma and her sisters!)

manicinsomniac · 15/07/2012 22:50

Of those mentioned so far, the following were in the top 300 for 2010:
Michelle, Karen, Nicola, Laura, Ivy, Sarah, Samantha, Rachel, Jennifer, Tiffany, Kimberly, Maria, Julia, Mary, Martha.
So there are obviously plenty of those around.

Several more are still top 300 in the US (Andrea, Audrey, Caroline, Alison, Margaret, Josephine, Jacqueline, Claire, Hazel, Kelly etc)

Dorothy and Sylvia are often suggested on here.

I don't think there are many names that truly are not used any more.

My best attempt would be:
Fanny
Virginia
Gaye
Muriel
Edna
Gertrude
Sheila
Doris
Eunice
Freda
Yseult

Gugglebum · 15/07/2012 22:53

My name appears on one of those first lists, and I will forbid my children from naming their daughters after me, I have never liked it! I also know 2 Claires, and a Vivian, and 2 little girls called Elsie.

LucyLastik · 15/07/2012 22:56

My middle name is Irene

I love the name Janet. Totally cool. If I ever have a little girl I'll call her Janet.

Devora · 15/07/2012 23:26

I really wanted to call dd Rachel, but everyone kept pulling faces (including dp). I wish I'd fought for it now: it's a great name, much better than the one she eventually got.

I also love Julie, and think it must be ripe for revival.

I know little girls called Maud, Ivy and Vera. And a lovely friend called her dd Kay, which I think is brilliant - it's so afashionable it's uber-cool.

Other names that have fallen out of fashion: Kirsty, Lindsay, Catherine, Katrina.

CockOff · 15/07/2012 23:43

I know babies / children added 5 or under called:
Mabel
Samantha
Elsie
Catherine
Dorothy
Alec
Josephine
Eric
David
Peter
Matthew
James
Blanche
Christopher

from your lists.

I also know babies called Ruth, Rebecca, Kevin, Michael and Andrew which are quite retro now.
