I'd appreciate it if someone could enlighten me,and perhaps provide a few examples,as I keep seeing it mentioned on this board.

Fuck knows but I do know they don't like names with K's. Join the baby name munity thread and you will see what names are frowned upon

DamselInDisgrace · 10/07/2012 11:31

Ptolemy.

PrettyInDecadence · 10/07/2012 11:33

It has to be outside of the top 100, yet still be recognisable, classic, easily spellable and pronounceable, not start with a K, contain no hyphens and not be made up.

MammaTonic · 10/07/2012 11:51

Pretty is bang on. Her definition shod be in the dictionary under 'Mumsnet Name' Grin

GnocchiNineDoors · 10/07/2012 11:52

Artemis

MammaTonic · 10/07/2012 11:57

I've seen Sholto on here for a boy which, IMO, is not a good name. Sholto is definitely a MN name; don't know how well it would work in RL ...

Poledra · 10/07/2012 11:58

Justine
Carrie
Gerrie (though I think that's more of a Gransnet name these days)
Olivia
Helen
Rowan
Tech

SweetGeneVincent · 10/07/2012 11:59

Arlo
Seren

ShowOfHands · 10/07/2012 12:02

I wonder if ds has a MN name. Because in rl people sometimes look a bit Hmm about it and a few people have labeled it try hard. But on MN the thread I started about it was universally positive. It is a recognised name (biblical), easy to spell and definitely not top 100.

Passmethecrisps · 10/07/2012 12:03

Names can't begin with a K? I always knew I had a crap name [sceptical]

PoppadumPreach · 10/07/2012 12:03

Lysander and Xander also seem to be popular here.

Janoschi · 10/07/2012 12:03

Elizabeth
Katherine
Beatrice

Gregory
Quentin
Edward

Makes my brain go to sleep. You get a lot of threads saying 'what do you think of Jilly / Trevor / Trixie?' only to be met with Mumsnet 'helpful' advice persuading them to go for something clearly not the same style at all.

Oh, you missed one, Pretty. Has to be a full name, not a shortened version. In case he/she ends up being a High Court Judge, FFS. As if that sort of reasoning really held Cherie Blair back. Or Tony Blair, or Ted Hughes, or Bob Hoskins....

AnnaNimitty · 10/07/2012 12:04

Most mumsnetters wet their pants at the mention of Hamish, Daphne and
Phyllis. Go figure!

PrettyInDecadence · 10/07/2012 12:06

Oh yes, forgot the shortening thing. However for most I think that falls into the same category as 'made up' Hmm

Janoschi · 10/07/2012 12:36

Mustn't alliterate. Again, didn't harm -

January Jones
Hugh Hefner
Howard Hughes
Jesse James
Michael Moore
... or me!

"It has to be outside of the top 100, yet still be recognisable, classic, easily spellable and pronounceable, not start with a K, contain no hyphens and not be made up."

That is probably good advice, regardless of mumsnet.

EdithWeston · 10/07/2012 13:10

Beauden?

PrettyInDecadence · 10/07/2012 13:11

"That is probably good advice, regardless of mumsnet."

Even the bit about being outside of the top 100, not starting with a K and not having a hyphen Hmm

tammy234 · 10/07/2012 13:11

Beauden -really Shock?

Babylon1 · 10/07/2012 13:12

Why can't it start with K?

I don't get that Confused

tammy234 · 10/07/2012 13:14

You're right, there are lots of lovely names starting with K - sorry. But I do think a name outside the top 100 is likely to serve a better purpose of identifying a person than a very widely used one.

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 10/07/2012 13:14

baby I dot know but on a thread about baby names it came up that K names aren't nice.

I have a K name and so does my son

Babylon1 · 10/07/2012 13:16

My dd is a K name, very beautiful, classic etc, and bollocks to anyone who says names beginning with K aren't nice Hmm

choceyes · 10/07/2012 13:17

Atticus

Tanyaaah · 10/07/2012 13:21

It was me who said I didn't like names that start with K Blush

I was thinking of; Kaiden, Kyle, Krystal, Kevin, Kian, Kelly......sorry!

I know there are nice names beginning with K!
