I'd appreciate it if someone could enlighten me,and perhaps provide a few examples,as I keep seeing it mentioned on this board.

It's interesting that people abhor and refute comments about the socioeconomic background conjured by some k names by being equally rude about the socioeconomic background conjured by other names.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all just used the names we liked. Unless you choose Toaster and then you need to be stopped for the good of society and your offspring.

I just think some people are attracted to names that they think will enhance/cement their social standing.

I think the K thing is in part beacuse a lot of Irish names that begin with C are anglicised to be spelt with a K.

Ciara become Keira
Ciarán becomes Keiran
Cian become Kian
Cillian become Killian

etc. They look better with the C.

To me the Mumsnet name du jour is definitely FLORENCE!

It seems very Mumsnet to decide the nickname or diminutive first and then find the name - or else to choose quite a contrived odd dimunitive. I've seen this a lot - 'what do you think of Joanna, nn Wannie?' 'DD will be Georgina, nn Orgy' etc. 'What name can I use if I want the nn Boo?'

Had never heard of this before MN. Often the nicknames will be in no way connected to the birth cert name making one wonder what the point is.

I wanted to call DD Cordelia but only because DH had already vetoed Buffy.

Kelly could be spelt Kelleigh to really upset the MN name judges.

Am almost sure that someone once wanted to call their daughter Pie () and wanted to know what it could be a nickname for.
