Desperate to name 4 week old DS and seeking opinions on the name Joby.

Despite being born at 41+1 weeks DS is still nameless at 4 weeks old and the main reason for this is other peoples' reactions to our favourite name. It's Joby and when he was born we both just loved it. However we've been inundated with comments such as 'why don't you just call him Toby' and 'why would you call him that'. I think the main reason for this is that we never said that Joby was his name, just that we were considering it.

So my question is whether to stick to our guns and call him Joby and ignore everyone else or to go back to the drawing board. Between DH and I we have french, italian and english heritage that we want to honour through the name and other names we've considered are Luca and Maxime. So what do you think/where should we go from here?

Our other DC are Camilla, Marco and Aurelia.

You have said that you both love it which for me is enough and decision made. I am aware of the poo and thing connection with the word jobby but I didn't think of either as I saw the name joby (jo-bee). If kids wants to tease they will find something to use. Pick the name you love and don't worry about anyone else

I knew a Joby in Cambridge. There's a children's book with a hero with the same name, I forget who by. Go for it!

We know two guys named Joby, both adults and it's a lovely name. My partner is Scottish and pronounces it no where like jobby. If you love it take it. I'm with abbypumpkin.

Well after a lot of discussing with DH we have decided on Olivier Luca Frederick. After dropping it subtley into conversation I managed to change DH's opinion on the name!

Oh Olivier is miles better! He'll be able to hold his head up high when with his gorgeously named siblings.

Well done.

Yay, that's a lovely name and goes well with your other DC names. Congratulations! Smile

diavlo · 11/04/2012 21:25

If you spell it as Louie, it shouldn't be ms pronounced as Lewis.

mirrorsaysNO · 11/04/2012 21:36

Yes! Olivier Luca Frederick. Great. Go for it!

Stellan · 12/04/2012 13:18

Olivier Luca Frederick - great choice!

ErikNorseman · 12/04/2012 13:26

Very good choice!

verycherry · 12/04/2012 15:46

Gorgeous name. I have an Oliver - Olli, who I desperately wanted to call Olivier, dp would not agree.... I think he tried to argue something about not being French... Funny that cos 2 yrs later we called ds4 Luca and we're not remotely Italian either!

Fabulous names anyway, congratulations!

freerangeeggs · 12/04/2012 20:50

That name is absolutely lovely! I just came to beg you to not use Joby (Glaswegian/hilarious) but I'm glad that I don't need to :)

Romann · 12/04/2012 21:09

Italian boys names are lovely, and all your other DCs have Italian names, so stick with that. Luca lovely. How about Jacopo, Giò (pronounced Joe), Giacomo, Costantino, Filippo, Brando, Dante, Tancredi, Massimiliano. I should have more sons, to use more of them!

I like Rocco, and wanted it for ds3, but dh couldn't stop thinking about that famous porn star Rocco Siffredi! Household name in Italy.

CecilyP · 13/04/2012 10:23

Your final choice is lovely, congratulations!
