Desperate to name 4 week old DS and seeking opinions on the name Joby.

Despite being born at 41+1 weeks DS is still nameless at 4 weeks old and the main reason for this is other peoples' reactions to our favourite name. It's Joby and when he was born we both just loved it. However we've been inundated with comments such as 'why don't you just call him Toby' and 'why would you call him that'. I think the main reason for this is that we never said that Joby was his name, just that we were considering it.

So my question is whether to stick to our guns and call him Joby and ignore everyone else or to go back to the drawing board. Between DH and I we have french, italian and english heritage that we want to honour through the name and other names we've considered are Luca and Maxime. So what do you think/where should we go from here?

Our other DC are Camilla, Marco and Aurelia.

Enzo is a fab name although I think maybe Olivier or Pascal would sit better with the names of your other DC.

lagoonhaze · 09/04/2012 16:47

I know a Jobe - nn is Joby. Not overly keen to be honest

cece · 09/04/2012 16:49

Isn't a Jobby a poo? So no I wouldn't use it.

pumpkinsweetie · 09/04/2012 16:54

IMO without meaning to sound rude-Joby is an awful name & sounds like Jobby (poo)Blush
Lucas or Lucan are lovely names maybe you could give them a thought Smile

Alessio is beautiful! I like Pascal as well. I've never met an Enzo under sixty though!

Congratulations on the new baby btw Thanks

Marlo
Frederico
Andreas

Your other children have names of Roman origin so I would you for Luke / Luca or Maxime / Maximilian.
What about Hadrian / Adrian and Valentino?

sunnyday123 · 09/04/2012 18:16

not a huge fan of Joby but tbh i think i'd call him anything at 4 weeks old to give the poor boy a name :( cant believe no one else is shocked that he's 4 weeks old and nameless!

minceorotherwise · 09/04/2012 18:20

Federico (nn Fred or Rico)

lifesrichpageant · 09/04/2012 18:22

Ignore everyone and name him what you feel is right!

javotte · 09/04/2012 18:45

Oh, and in France, you won't find a Pascal under 40!

donotoutplz · 09/04/2012 19:06

am not Scottish but in this house, a "jobby" is what the dog leaves in the garden for us to pick up.

in my mum's family, it's a "thingamajig" like a cherry stoner or some such.

i really would not use Joby tbh.

PercyFilth · 09/04/2012 19:28

My friends have an Enzo who is 10 but he's a dog

I think it's a terrifically cool name for man or beast:o

mrz · 09/04/2012 19:31

you do know it means hated don't you?

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 09/04/2012 19:33

oh please camarelia dont call your DS Joby, just dont. I am Scottish and it sounds awful - slang word for poo.

There are some fantastic names out there.

Heifer · 09/04/2012 20:21

sorry I've never even been to Scotland and the first thing I thought of was big joby (meaning poo)... I know if should be pronounced Joe Bee, but my brain still wants to say Job E....

Love Luca personally.

Limelight · 09/04/2012 20:26

I know a couple of grown up Jobys. Both are achingly trendy incidentally and very nice guys. I think it's a great name!

camarelia · 09/04/2012 21:01

We aren't achingly trendy so that is another reason not to use it! sunnyday technically he isn't nameless as we all call him bunny [bugrin]

I teach a boy called Job (pronounced Jobe) a nice name I think and you could still call him Joby if you like?

Not keen on Maxime but Max is nice and I think Luca is quite popular ATM.

I do feel for you though - sometimes we worry too much what other people think!

oliviasma · 09/04/2012 21:10

the name joab is lovely and can be sweetened up by you into joby x

Chunkamatic · 09/04/2012 21:12

Could you not just use Job (pronounced Jobe)?

Chunkamatic · 09/04/2012 21:12

Oh sorry x post with the last few posters!!!

oliviasma · 09/04/2012 21:12

trixymalixy · 09/04/2012 21:15
