I like Lucy, I am a Lucy and I have always quite liked my name. DP would like to call a girl Lucy (we wouldn't) he really likes that name.

I also like Amber and Molly.

All lovely names.

peggyblackett · 14/03/2012 20:14

I have a Lucy. Classic name - completely timeless IMO.

littleshinyone · 14/03/2012 20:15

i love Lucy.
would have it on our short list if it wasn't for the fact that the cat is called Lucy (rehomed, and didn't have the foresight heart to rename her when she arrived)

plus, me, DH and DD all have 'y' or 'ie' endings, so we're in the realm of starting to sound a bit silly, but I think it's a lovely name.

littlepie · 14/03/2012 20:19

Lucy is on our short list. DH loves it, I worry it's a bit safe-but I do like it.

I've never met an unpleasant Lucy!

Beans1977 · 14/03/2012 20:24

All gorgeous names, I really like Lucy - it's classic and feminine, and I've never met a bad one either!

boyfallingoutofthesky · 14/03/2012 20:28

Lucy is nice, but a bit dull.
Not a major fan of Molly - wasn't Molly house a Victorian term for brothel? (correct me if I am wrong).
Like Amber best from your list and is definitely the most unusual.

severnofnine · 14/03/2012 20:31

It is an AMAZING name. at the risk of outing myself I am a Lucy and have always loved my name. Its never that popular( so you are likely to be the only lucy in your class), but not so strange that you have to spell it out to people all the time. Plus it is timeless and relatively class less too.
amber and molly are cool too but I'd go for lucy

KWL51 · 14/03/2012 20:37

Lucy is a lovely name. It's my Dd's name and she's a lively girl. Surprisingly there aren't many in her large school. It's a name that won't sound silly when she's older. Dd's middle name is Molly, well Lucy *** Molly. (don't want to out by saying the other middle name. But for us Molly was cute for a young girl but didn't sound right for an adult.

sweetasanut · 14/03/2012 20:42

cheers everyone! Looks like Lucy is the name then :-) and KWL51 I was thinking the same about Molly, cute girls name but not very adult as such. Thankyou everyone, recon we'll stick with that. Now just to decide on a boys name :-0 lol!

Amber and Lucy both lovely. Molly too nicknamey.

serin · 14/03/2012 22:16

Lovely classic name and always comes out well in those daft polls of names teachers like!

geisha · 14/03/2012 22:16

I have a Lucy too. Only one in her small primary school (160). I would chose it again if I had the choice!

geisha · 14/03/2012 22:17

Or even choOse!

bramblina · 14/03/2012 22:21

I am Lucy and have always liked my name, except for when I was about 12-15 when I thought it was a bit childish and I just wanted to be all grown up Hmm
Totally agree with severnofnine, a generally good name all round which is hard to beat.

plus3 · 14/03/2012 22:21

Lucy is my DD name - but I didn't choose it. Like you, I thought it wa a bit boring....I wanted Clemetine or Iris.

However, it was my DH's favourite name. As he delivered her it just felt right that she shoud be Lucy.

She is feisty,determined and gorgeous!

fussbucket · 14/03/2012 22:23

Lucy is lovely. A 'Mollie House' was a gay brothel in 18th and 19th century slang.

Heswall · 14/03/2012 22:24

Never met a nice Lucy so it's a no from me

insanityscratching · 14/03/2012 22:26

I have a Lucy too and love it. It seems to grow with her. Only one other Lucie in her primary with almost 400 pupils so not too popular either.

exoticfruits · 14/03/2012 22:27

I think Lucy is lovely-miles better than the rest of your list.

CecilyP · 14/03/2012 22:32

It's fine. It's one of those names you can't really go woring with.

EllenParsons · 15/03/2012 00:02

love love love

much better than amber and molly IMO (not that there is anything wrong with those)

LemonTurd · 15/03/2012 00:41

I like it. Classic and won't date.

How about Lucia, if you wanted something a little more unusual?

ED1984 · 15/03/2012 05:23

Lucy is great. But I love Lucia too as suggested above. It is our daughter's middle name, and sometimes I wish we had chosen it as her first name.

mnistooaddictive · 15/03/2012 05:43

I am Lucy and I hate it. Too girly and every time er go somewhere with animals such as farm, zoo etc one of the animals is ALWAYS called Lucy. Always bumping into people with dogs called Lucy.

TheMerchantOfVenom · 15/03/2012 05:55

I don't know. I think it's a bit twee. A forerunner to all the Milly, Tilly, Lily type names. Don't get me wrong - Lucy is definitely much more timeless than any of those names, but to my mind/ears it's a cutesy, frilly, 'lite' name. It lacks substance, or something.

However - I absolutely prefer it to Molly (which is over-used, dull and will date) and Amber, which is really blah...

Hmm, I guess I probably have different taste in names to you, so feel free to ignore my contribution. Grin
