Lucy? discuss......

I like the names Amber, Molly, And.Lucy but my Dh Is set on Lucy! lol not.much imagination....what do you all recon? we haven't even got started on boys names.yet! dh likes Alfie though lol bit common I recon

Also - and I mean this in the nicest possible way - you think he's not got much imagination, and you want Molly??

Lucy is lovely, Molly is meh and Amber is just very 80s.

I've met Lucys from all walks of life and I think it's a very versatile name. It's pretty, feminine, and easy to spell without being princessy.

Amber is very popular at the moment.

I have a Lucy as well. I gave DP a list of 4 names which were my favourites, Lucy, Katie, Freya, Pippa and he picked Lucy. It doesnt go with the other dc's as their names could be girl or boy names and I was surprised DP picked it as he doesn't like girly names. I love it though, girly but not flowery and short and sweet

Lucy is very boring, there are 3 Lucy's in DS nursery class, and 2 in DD's music class - it's too popular.

Love Amber but have you though of using the other spelling Amba - much more unusual.

Alfie as a name is nice - don't think it is too common, i haven't ever met an Alfie.

What about Oscar, Finn, Harry, Felix, Joseph, Joshua, Freddie, Charlie, Jamie, Archie.

Lucy is such a pretty name - I am always well disposed towards Lucys for some reason - they are always pretty and bright! Don't know any little ones of that name. Definitely not boring.

Alfie is VERY popular around here. Deliberately misspelling names to make them 'unusual' is bad. It makes it look like you are trying too hard.

Tends to get shortened to "Loose" (which I know is more letters, but less sounds when you are speaking!)

...... which then leads to all the
loose woman,
loose elastic,
loose morals,
screw loose.... etc.

I love the name Lucy, I know a little Lucy at our nursery but it's spelt LUCIE. I do like that spelling, but wonder whether the child will have a lifetime of spelling out her name!

I have a Lucie... named after a friend (Lucy in French). In my head, the ie makes the name sound a bit softer, even though it sounds exactly the same :0

We have a Lucia, who we call Lucy. I like that it's versatile like that. Lucy is nice but Lucia is a bit more interesting, imo.

I suggested Lucia upthread as I know an Italian Lucia, pron. loo-CHE-ah.

We pronounce ours 'Loo SEE Ah'. Which I think is South American. You can also say LOOsha or LUcha.

I am a Lucy - I've always liked it, I don't think it's overly popular although dd's friends mum has just named her new baby Lucy. Never had any 'loose' nicknames/teasing. Whoever said Amber is 80's that's what popped in to my head too Molly is a bit twee.

Prefer Molly - but getting quite popular.

Lucy - far too girly and boring for my tastes (in same vein as Emily - which I'm also not keen on). But fits in well with current crop of girly names that are popular.

Lucy is lovely. IMO Lucie is even nicer. And makes me think of Mabel Lucie Attwell.

We have a Lucy. You can't go wrong with Lucy. It's not mega-popular, but it's not weird either. It won't date, like the current crop of trendy names- there are Lucys of all ages. There are a lot of dogs called Lucy, but that's true of other names, too. (How many dogs are called "Ben" for instance?) It means "light" which is good meaning. It's international. It's easy to spell. Go for it!
