Calder for a boy?

I've heard of a few boys being named this lately, and I quite like it!

One of the reasons is that I really like Cade as a nn, but don't like Cadence or Caden at all.

Thoughts?

Personally I'm not that keen on the 'surname as first name' trend BUT if you like the Riley/Bailey/Taylor style names, I like the nn Cade so it's a nice one. It's very American, but given your name I suspect you can get away with that!

CheerfulYank · 31/01/2012 19:27

Yup, I'm all-American :o

I don't like any of those names, actually, and can't bear Madison, Kennedy, etc. But maybe as I don't know anyone with Calder as a surname it doesn't strike me as the same?

Ah, see I went to school with a Calder, so in my head it's always a surname. Perhaps I'm unusual in that regard.

wahwahwah · 31/01/2012 19:31

Reminds me of Calder Park Zoo.

tralalala · 31/01/2012 19:36

reminds me of Calderdale. Not a bad place but a bit random to sound like.

LaFilleSurLePont · 31/01/2012 19:37

It's awful. Cade is lovely however, and a name in its own right,at least in here in Scotland,if not a very common one. I'd just use Cade.

CheerfulYank · 31/01/2012 19:44

I just can't! Too nicknamey! :)

OP posts:
LaFilleSurLePont · 31/01/2012 19:47

Just tell them it's Scottish.Grin And wasn't there a character called Cade in Gone With The Wind?

Calder really is awful I'm afraid.

CheerfulYank · 31/01/2012 19:48

Really and truly?

OP posts:
LaFilleSurLePont · 31/01/2012 19:50

Yes,really and truly awful, and I love 'American' names, though if it's just going on the birth certificate and he's going to be known as Cade by all, then it's not quite so terrible.

JollyBear · 31/01/2012 19:52

I think river Calder.

LaFilleSurLePont · 31/01/2012 19:54

Plus it's a garden centre here, and that's all I can think of.Not that it's an issue for you.

CheerfulYank · 31/01/2012 19:56

Well, I'm not even pregnant, but my husband takes eons to decide anything, so I like to get my ducks in a row by having a definitive shortlist for him to choose from. :o If we went for it, he would probably get Cade most of the time, except for the occasional "CALDER THOMAS GET DOWN RIGHT NOW," or whatever.

Our other DS is Samuel but only called that in, as above, the most dire of circumstances. :) Usually he's just Sam.

Jolly I think it means river, or stream or something.

LaFilleSurLePont · 31/01/2012 19:57

Now that you've added Thomas to it, it sounds better. I'm almost beginning to like it.

Calderstones Park in Liverpool.

Its horrid. Sorry.

CheerfulYank · 31/01/2012 20:01

Of course it was Nathan called Nate until today, so I'm fickle too, apparently.

TSC we have neither West Life nor footballers. :o

OP posts:
LaFilleSurLePont · 31/01/2012 20:03

Put it on the list then.

LaFilleSurLePont · 31/01/2012 20:04

Nathan is very nice. Have you decided against it?

CupOfBrownJoy · 31/01/2012 20:05

Ach if you like it, use it.

There's a lot worse out there tbf

Donki · 31/01/2012 20:05

It's. A. River.
It used to be a very polluted river by the time it reached here.....
With lots of rubbish in it.

GlaikitFizzog · 31/01/2012 20:07

I live in a Calder!! Still not keen on Shittah???

vitaminC · 31/01/2012 20:09

Just don't move to Yorkshire - the river Calder is one of the main rivers runnign through the county. And there's the Aire and Calder canal, too :o

To me, it doesn't really sound like a name - just like you chose a random word. Unless it has some specific meaning to you (such as it being a family name), I don't think I'd use it. Sorry!

CheerfulYank · 31/01/2012 20:09

I am perfectly enraptured with Shittah, Glaikit, but you see I don't want DC with the same initial and I already have a Sam. That's all that's stopping me, I swear. :o

Well, it's not a river here, Donki. :)

No, Nathan is still on the table LaFille. You see I have it in my head I will get twins next time and need lots of names Blush
