What names are the most chavvy do you think?

OP posts:

lisaro · 23/01/2012 16:06

Anastasia? I spent half my childhood yearning for that name...sigh.

SecretMinceRinser · 23/01/2012 16:10

OK here's my list of chavvy names. And dd's name is on it and others I like. Names tend to become popular and then sound chavvy because people like them imo.

Boys - Jaden, Kai, Alfie, Archie, Harley

Girls - Milly, Lilly, Evie, Ella, Lacey (particularly with the middle name May).

RobinSparkles · 23/01/2012 16:17

Ella? Really? I always thought it was pretty. It was my late Grandma's name.

letseatgrandma · 23/01/2012 16:34

Boys-Jaden, Kaden, Reece, Rhys, Connor, Alfie, Charlie, Kai, Mason, Brandon, Harrison, Jenson, Mitchell, Taylor, Jordan, Dylan, Dillon, Riley.

Girls-Aimee, Jade, Destiny, Niahm (with that spelling!), Madison, Tierney, Taylah, Maisie, Chayse, Chelsee, Eden-Rose, Lily-Mae, Kaylee, Alannah.

ReneeVivien · 23/01/2012 16:36

There you go, some of these names are lovely: Jaden, Alfie, Archie, Milly, Lilly, Evie, Ella, Jordan, Dylan, Maisie are all really pretty. Very popular, but is that anything to be ashamed of?

zest01 · 23/01/2012 16:48

hmmmmmm, my DC's names haven't been mentioned, however 2 have unique spellings, one I thought was unusual but am now hearing it EVERYWHERE, one has been in top 10 names list for what feels like ever and one....dare I say it....is actually considered posh!!

Not sure where that leaves us in the chav scale, however most people assume we are on benefits anyway because we have a large family. Do we care? Not a jot!!

I love DC's names and so do they (so far at least) so everyone else can whistle! :)

lisaro · 23/01/2012 17:21

Renee Noo, Jaden is hideous! Jordan isn't much better. Agree about the others, though, although would use the 'full' names myself.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/01/2012 17:32

My son is called Jaidon.

Told you it was top of the MN chav list.

BTW someone guessed my name - well done Grin

SecretMinceRinser · 23/01/2012 17:43

I like Ella too. But it is considered chavvy/common round these parts - particularly Ella-May/Mae which is the bog-standard middle name for girls these days - the new 'Louise'.

LynetteScavo · 23/01/2012 17:49

I think one of the boys in the latest Boden catalogue is Jaiden.

Theonewiththehair · 23/01/2012 17:52

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere I knew it was Harry. Grin

ReneeVivien · 23/01/2012 17:53

Jaden and Jordan are lovely names that have been tainted by association.

I bet if you heard them for the very first time you'd like them. Like Sharon - beautiful name with an image problem.

MrsDV - you and I will have to lead the rehabilitation of Jaden, Jaiden and Jordan. In time all will follow Smile

ReneeVivien · 23/01/2012 17:54

Has May/Mae taken over from Rose as the middle name du jour, then?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/01/2012 17:57

Jaden/Jayden/Jaaaaaaydene etc comes from the original which means God has heard/listened.

Which I think is well nice.

Its a hebrew name so nerpy ner ner.

And yes - my name is Harry.

(not really)

Spuddybean · 23/01/2012 17:59

any name sounds awful when screamed across the playground followed by a threat of violence!

i used to work in a very 'rough' area and the names were all a bit jerry springer to say the least. I had a class of chanel's and jaegar's which did make me smile inside.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/01/2012 18:00

To show just how rubbish all this 'what is a chavvy name' nonsense is:

I have noticed several erm ...Jerermy Kylers using the name Billie for their DD's.

And we all know that Billie is the most lovliest, beautiful, classy girls name in the entire universe.

I rest my case, bang my gavel and stick out my tongue.

ReneeVivien · 23/01/2012 18:03

My pet hate is names with unique spellings, and I have to admit that when I adopted dd I did regularise hers. Maybe because I've spent a lifetime spelling out my name, I didn't want her to do the same.

I'm also not overfond of feminised male names e.g. Harriet, Henrietta, Nigella, Thomasina...

But chavvy? It's just fashion, isn't it?

ReneeVivien · 23/01/2012 18:05

Billie is a great name - crosses all classes and social groups with ease and is therefore a perfect name for the 21st century.

I also wanted my daughters to have names that wouldn't tie them into one demographic.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/01/2012 18:14

I think adoption is an illustration of how ridiculous those 'naughty/chav/I can tell what the family will be like names' lists are.

What if my DS had been adopted by a middle class family? The chances are they wouldnt have changed his name so he would still have a chav name.

This thread is not too bad and I really dont mind that people dont like my son's name but some of the name threads are vile.

Claire1lou · 23/01/2012 18:30

I don't think it matters as long as you are happy with the nane U pick. In my opinion Manes that sound chavy are American sounding names like Whitney, Courtney, Cash and Tyler. They just don't sound right. Still, loads of people are bound to disagree with me and who am i to talk think my name was most common girls name when i was a kid.

Claire1lou · 23/01/2012 18:32

Suddenly i can't spell properly either

"any name sounds awful when screamed across the playground followed by a threat of violence!" - I agree. Kian's mother managed to put me off the name simply by screaming at him constantly.

I agree, too. The thing is, certain names are far more likely to be heard being screamed across the playground/supermarket, etc. These are the names that make me shudder.

Chanel's and Jaegar's what? ;)

SecretMinceRinser · 23/01/2012 18:39

Well a lot of people obviously do like the name too OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere cos it's really popular!
