Three syllabel Girls Names - with nice shortening

I'm not bothered by popularity. I have a popular name and I like it.

I love the names Isabel, Olivia, Amelia, but would not use as I'd run the risk of Izzy, Livvie or Milly. I don't like the ie or y ending.

I like a classic strong name.

I have a lot of name associations, so although nice names, I would not use Annabel, Verity, Catherine, Christina, Susannah or Violet. I just can't get past the people I know with these names. Silly I know.

Certain names that trend on here, such as Allegra, I consider too posh, and it doesn't fit with common DH and I.

Hope I have not offended everyone.

So far we have one name:

Helena

Any other suggestions?

MadreInglese - thanks for the link, not sure I can face 1,483 names, especially if a lot of them are American surname/ cactus type names (page one had Addison and Acacia)

I saw Jennifer - nn Jen further up this thread and forgot how much I love that name. Not very popular now either.

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 07/12/2011 15:56

I have a Claudia and love the name still, claudie for short.
She was nearly Geraldine or Josephine, josie nn.

MrMeaner · 07/12/2011 15:56

Sorry - anyone mentioned Eloise yet?

A father's bias playing into account here...

shouldnotbehere · 07/12/2011 15:57

Fiona - I like this name, hadn't considered it before, not sure if it's a bit 1980s, but will consider further

Anne-Marie - don't like double-barrelled names
Charlotte - LOVE this name. It's my sister's name. Mum picked us all nice, classic names.

Eloise - has been mentioned, but DH didn't like, but might run it passed him again, just in case he changes his mind.

Millicent - it would be Millie, I think, but thanks for suggestion

seems to me you mainly like names with an 'L' sound in them,

can you compromise on something else eg, my niece is isabel, nn bella - has never been called izzy

Blimey, I thought I was fussy!

Bitofasurpise · 07/12/2011 16:06

Clementine (pronounced the French way, so rhymes with mean)

Nn Clem, clemmie, tiny, minty

shouldnotbehere · 07/12/2011 16:07

Right then, I've got to go, but will check in again tomorrow, these are the names to show DH.

Helena
Alicia
Celia
Samantha
Jennifer
Selina

There were some that were on the list, and now off it again, as they just didn't 'fit'.

DH likes names that are not too frilly. His suggestions are Amy, Holly, Zoe. I like 3 syllable names, and not keen on ie y ending.

I suspect he'll like Jennifer, as he can use Jenny as nn.
