Three syllabel Girls Names - with nice shortening

I'm not bothered by popularity. I have a popular name and I like it.

I love the names Isabel, Olivia, Amelia, but would not use as I'd run the risk of Izzy, Livvie or Milly. I don't like the ie or y ending.

I like a classic strong name.

I have a lot of name associations, so although nice names, I would not use Annabel, Verity, Catherine, Christina, Susannah or Violet. I just can't get past the people I know with these names. Silly I know.

Certain names that trend on here, such as Allegra, I consider too posh, and it doesn't fit with common DH and I.

Hope I have not offended everyone.

So far we have one name:

Helena

Any other suggestions?

Love Iona. Beautifully simple. A nickname could be Ona (Oh-na).

Not too keen on Laura, it's pretty but very plain.

shouldnotbehere · 07/12/2011 17:35

Sylvia - I love the name Sylvia, but I wouldn't use it. I associate the old lady names with the old ladies I know, and my Nanna has a friend called Sylvia.

Clara is a lot nicer then Clarabel.

belgo · 07/12/2011 17:36

Adeline Ada
Ottoline Otto

shouldnotbehere · 07/12/2011 17:37

MrsOzz - I'm not agreeing to Laura, as it's not making my heart sing, if that makes sense. You are right on it being plain. Its still a nice safe name.

Margaret - I find the name too old, but thank you.

Clara - although its two syllables this has been on and off our list. Lots. Nice name though.

Meredith
Serena
Eleri

I don't think Clara flows with our surname. It's more this than the two syllables.

DH suggested Clara, he really loves the name.

Adeline Ada - not quite fitting, but friend has recently called her daughter Ada and I do like it

Ottoline Otto - not us, its a bit posh, but I do like the name.

Oooo I just thought or more three sylable names:
Monica
Miranda

Still thinking...

shouldnotbehere · 07/12/2011 17:46

Serena - this name has already been suggested, but DH did not like it.

Eleri - love this name. It has been on and off our list a few times. We live in N Wales, so it would be fine to pronounce. When we were discussing it, DH said Hairy Eleri, and it just slightly put us off.

Monica - like this name. DH doesn't.
Miranda - Dh doesn't like this name either.

Romilly - no rs
Maria - too Spanish, just not us.

Madison - too American, and a bit surnamey
Leona - associate it with Miss Lewis
Leah - I know its only two syllables, but I do like this name.
