four in a class - really?

I've noticed on here that many people seem to dread the possibility that their child may be one of 'four or five' in a class. Just thinking about this when my friend showed me the list for her dd's reception class intake the other day. Of thirty children there were only two names replicated, each with two children with the name (one of these being Ruby, which was the most popular name for the year anyway). When I was at primary school in the seventies when there were probably fewer names used overall there was only one duplicated name in a class of 20 girls (Claire). So, just out of interest, what names are there more than one of in your dc's classes and are there often '4 or 5' of one name or is this actually an extremely rare occurrence?!

There were 3 of me in my class at secondary- 4 in my year.

Try being a Sarah in 1978 and actually, all the way through my life including currently one of 3 in an office of 10 people. Yes, it happens, which is why I'm determined to give my dds the best chance of this not happening, no guarantees of course!

CroissantNeuf · 10/10/2011 14:52

I know of 3 Sams in one class and probably about 6 or 7 in total in the small school.

sonniebonnie · 10/10/2011 14:53

We've got three Jacks and two Harrys in ds's class. Two of the Jacks have surnames starting with S.

Jojay · 10/10/2011 14:53

There isn't 4 or 5 with the same name, but there's 3 Emily's, 2 Emma's, 2 George's.

There was 2 of me at secondary school, and I'm come across loads of a similar age as colleagues, neighbours etc/

chimchar · 10/10/2011 14:53

there are four lads in my ds class of 30 children(17 boys) with the same name.

i was one of 3 in my year with the same name in comp, but don't come across any now.

anniebunny · 10/10/2011 14:54

DD has four Sophies in her class. And two Josh Cs. Two Emilys.

mypersonalfavourite · 10/10/2011 14:56

6 Daniels in my primary school class. Nearly 50% of the total boys.

munstersmum · 10/10/2011 14:56

2 x Thomas out of 12 boys in DS class.
There were 5 of Isobel / Isabella at nursery.

KirstyJC · 10/10/2011 14:56

There are 4 Olivers in DSes class, two of them have the same initialed surname too.

There are 2 Chloes as well.

tammytoby · 10/10/2011 14:57

I hated having to share my name with at least 2 or 3 others in the year - being quite short, I was always known as little XX.

In my dd's class there are two little Finns. Other super popular names round here include Jack, Harry, Charlie for boys and Ella, Ellie, Isabella for girls.

Seems a shame given how many names are out there!

tammytoby · 10/10/2011 14:58

6 Daniels in one class Shock - poor teacher!

tabulahrasa · 10/10/2011 14:58

There were at one point 4 Emmas in DD's class, there's 2 Courtneys and 2 Ryans as well - and they're only the ones I know about, lol

purpleturtletoise · 10/10/2011 14:58

2 Noahs in an intake of 20 when DS1 started reception. (And we thought we'd been so original) Grin

rachel234 · 10/10/2011 15:01

There are two Sophies and three Sams in my dd's class. Agree - lots of gorgeous names outside the top 100.

comedaygoday · 10/10/2011 15:03

DS1 is still at nursery, so no school classes yet, but there are 2 Madeleines, 2 Jacobs and when he first started there were 2 boys both called Rufus.

runningmonkey · 10/10/2011 15:07

A couple of years ago I taught a class including 4x Alex (1 female), 4x Tom and 3x Lauren. 32 in the class in total.

pinkhebe · 10/10/2011 15:07

3 Joe's and 1 Joey in my sons reception class!

poppydaisy · 10/10/2011 15:09

Three Alfies and two Charlies in ds's class this year. Yes, it gets annoying when they share the same surname initial....

BuntyPenfold · 10/10/2011 15:11

4 x Eve in nursery.

IvyAndGold · 10/10/2011 15:11

Two other people with my name through high school, though spelled slightly differently. God knows how many in the year! DD's little sister goes to a small village school, and there's someone there, in the same year, with the same first and surname!

ilovesprouts · 10/10/2011 15:13

in my sons class they is a kenzie & kenzo [kenzie is my ds2 ] :)

DontCallMeBaby · 10/10/2011 15:13

DD's school is two form entry, so 60ish kids. In her class, there are two Harrys, two Emilys and two Jameses. Other class has two Annas and two Annabels, while across the year there are two Katies, two Lilys and two Louis ... erm, what is the plural of Louis?! Plus an additional Harry.

There are no Sophies, which is actually statistically impossible.

winterland · 10/10/2011 15:15

There are 4 Eva's in my daughters class. Three Ethans, and three Joe's or joeys in nursery.
