Just heard this on the radio, and remembered that when I was pg with DD1 DH wanted to put this on the list along with Anna-Molly (incubus song)

Do you think you could get away with Enola? Or does it bring up the song plus the atom bomb?

First thing I though of was the song & atom bomb. But I'm 'of an age'.

LetThereBeRock · 20/09/2011 13:27

It immediately makes me think of the bomber, and that's a horrible thing to have associated with one's name.
It's not a nice name even without that connotation imho.

Beamur · 20/09/2011 13:30

I would think of the bomb too, plus Enola sounds a lot like Ebola - also not nice! Sorry.

BlueChampagne · 20/09/2011 13:53

Bomb here too - and gay's not great for the playground either.

comedaygoday · 20/09/2011 13:58

Bomb here too, sorry.

picnicbasketcase · 20/09/2011 14:00

First thoughts: Manics song Enola/Alone, followed by Gay, followed by bomb.

Ephiny · 20/09/2011 14:00

Sounds like a disease to me. Quite an ugly name anyway IMO.

ThePosieParker · 20/09/2011 14:02

Disease.

greenzebra · 20/09/2011 15:04

I knew I was right when I said that to DH, glad it wasnt put on the list is there any other names like this?

He still loves Anna -Molly (anamoly) theres no way you could call a child this but he thinks its cool. I will not let him call the next one this.

makes me think:

manics song
it's alone backwards
enola gay

so um, not a name i would choose

thisisyesterday · 20/09/2011 15:06

anamoly isn't a word. are you thinking of anomaly?

Voidka · 20/09/2011 15:08

Ebola was the first thing that came into my head.

MoreBoober · 20/09/2011 15:09

It's the Bomber for me and the potential knick name Enola Ebola. Sad

BrittanyBelle · 20/09/2011 15:10

What about Enora instead ? it's pronounced Ennor-ra here in france

greenzebra · 20/09/2011 15:10

yeah I was thisisyesterday sorry Im slighty dyslexic.(thats true too not made up)

antshouse · 20/09/2011 15:11

The little girl in waterworld was Enola.

nenevomito · 20/09/2011 15:11

Song, atom bomb, ebola virus. In that order.

The thing is that the song is of a time and a lot of people aren't going to know about that or the plane that dropped the bomb, so if you like it you may get away with it.

Catsycat · 20/09/2011 20:58

It's a pretty name, but too Hiroshima IMO - a bit like having a DC and calling him Adolf, the association ruins it for me (not that I think Adolf is a great name or anything, just an example!!!!).

Summerbird73 · 20/09/2011 21:04

yes babyheave but what about when they learn about the Atom Bomb during History lessons, it will all come out then. Also children of this generation wont know of the song or immediately know of the Bomber but their parents will.

i jumped on this thread to say no no no - and that was just from the title. sorry OP Blush

Meteorite · 20/09/2011 21:15

How about Eleanor?

greenzebra · 21/09/2011 08:22

if you read the op from me you would see that Im not considering it my husband was and I wouldnt let him call our DD this, but I was after opinions on whether you could get away with it.

I was also asking if there was any other names that you couldnt use like Anna-Molly

OP posts:
smother · 21/09/2011 09:03

As an alternative, I love the name Nola. Would seriously consider that if I were to have another DD.

Enola - nope for all the obvious reasons.

Anna-Molly - sounds like animally to me. Why not just Anna or Molly.

seeker · 21/09/2011 09:05

No of you can't call your child Enola! Unless you can guarantee that she will spend the next 80 years in the company of people with no general knowledge!

Summerbird73 · 21/09/2011 09:05

ok i will rephrase my post:

No - i dont think you can get away with it

ChineapplePunk · 21/09/2011 21:49

I think Enola is a lovely name, and I think people may be going a tad over the top in regard to the negative connotations. I mean, it's not exactly the same as Myra.........
