Gray for a boy?

i love it but DH thinks it's too unusual. In fairness I've never met a Gray so that does make it unusual. I don't mind an unusual name so long as it doesn't result in him being hugely made fun of in school.

What do you think?

Quite like it!!
But not sure I would choose myself.

satsumaish · 08/08/2011 15:08

love it. really elegant. x

Bandwithering · 08/08/2011 15:10

Grey is such a bland colour. I prefer Red!

I believe Mylene Klass's partner is called Gray. Or at least Mylene calls him Gray. His name is actually Graham.

What do you think of Greg? it is just nicer, and less 'bland' sounding than Gray. And also, nobody will assume it's short for Graham!

But....... if you're really set on it, I don't think it is the kind of name that would result in a child being teased. NOt at all.

MardyBra · 08/08/2011 15:13

I misread the title to start and read "Gay" and had to click on to comment!

I agree that Gray is a bland colour, and I'm not sure about it.

LoveInAColdClimate · 08/08/2011 15:16

I really like it.

AvrilsAtonement · 08/08/2011 15:16

Thanks for the feedback. Mmmm, I'm not keen on Greg, sorry! I admit I'm not a fan of Graham! I'm really glad to hear you don't think it would result in teasing. And that satsuma likes it:)
Devon - Is there any reason you would a avoid picking Gray apart from just not liking it enough?

Laughing aloud here as just read mardybra's post!! That WOULD result in teasing!

Still laughing, must be the hormones. . .

I'd assume he was Graham and was trying to disguise that.

MardyBra · 08/08/2011 15:19

I know a 60 something female "Gay". That's one that's kind of died out really...

AvrilsAtonement · 08/08/2011 15:21

Oh dear, I agree withDH that Graham would only sound right once he'd turned 40 or 50. Still really like Gray though! Just don't know what to do!

OP posts:
newbielisa · 08/08/2011 15:23

I like it but might be biased as DH is a Graham that I call Gra so am very used to it. Do like Gray though as long as the surname has a strong syllable start.

AvrilsAtonement · 08/08/2011 15:25

Surname is McNally, what do you think?

OP posts:
Bandwithering · 08/08/2011 15:25

Just go with Gray. It's not that bad ykwim... ok, if asked on a name board "what is your opinion on Gray?' I'll dig an opinion out of the bag! but in rl, if I met a Gray, I'd think 'oh that makes a change'. But I wouldn't roll my eyes. It's not like Sporticus Azul Smith

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/08/2011 15:31

I like it. I shouldn't, it's not my type of name, but I do. Little boy in a book I have was Grayer. I like that too and I shouldn't.

It goes great with your surname.

AvrilsAtonement · 08/08/2011 15:31

Thanks band withering, so far nobody thinks it's likely to cause embarrassment. Maybe if I suggest Sporticus to husband he'll eagerly accept Gray. . .

I definitely like it. I went out with a Gray prior to meeting DH. I thought he had a nice name.

Thanks cleverything, it's really the sound of Gray I like though, rather than it's meaning.
Thanks Fanny.

Just need to decide on one for the other twin now!

OP posts:
newbielisa · 08/08/2011 15:44

Works great with the surname. Other twin a boy or girl?

AvrilsAtonement · 08/08/2011 15:47

Another boy
