Gray for a boy?

i love it but DH thinks it's too unusual. In fairness I've never met a Gray so that does make it unusual. I don't mind an unusual name so long as it doesn't result in him being hugely made fun of in school.

What do you think?

What about Grady ?

Wouldn't be my cup of tea, but some people like sur namey names. Grady is quite nice actually IF you had to pick from a list of sur names.

Love Gray, and Grayson. But "son" names are SO popular right now and I couldn't just go with Gray as my surname is Brick. Gray Brick just doesn't quite do it, does it? :)

I really liked Gray when I was pregnant with DS, but DH was worried about the 'r' being dropped too.

I had a look at this website, which gives you info about a name and info about how people with that actual name like/dislike it. Unfortunately, there were a few mentions of being called 'Gay', which meant DH vetoed it.

There was also info on similar names, ed Graydon, Grayling, Grayson.

Still personally like the name Gray though...

Red is nn for Frederick, Mardy ... I could start a whole theme: Scarlet, Rusty, Indigo :o

Oh I love it! It's something we considered for a split second... as in, that's a gorgeous name, such a shame it rhymes with our surname!! Although rhyming isn't quite as bad as being called Gray Brick is it :o

I really like it, actually. I surprise myself...! I wouldn't use it for my own child, but I would think, 'huh, nice name' if I heard about anyone else using it.

I think it has really stylish undertones and while he may well get a bit of playground teasing, as an adult it will be a great name. Distinctive while also not being unique-for-the-sake-of-it.

There are loads and loads of names which lend themselves to a bit of teasing, but which people are hardly going to check themselves into therapy over. Drop - or add - a letter and it gives a double entendre, rhymes with something amusing to 10-year old ears. Heaps of names which you might think are totally bullet-proof teasing-wise, but which some ingenious 12-year old will come up with ammunition for.

I have loved since the actor Gray O'brien was in Peak practice in the 90's (and the actor!) we had it lined up as a middle name seven years ago.. It's not got used as we have 2 dds. Sounds good with your surname.

I like Gray..... wouldn't work with our surname though. Gray Hall, sounds like a stately home Grin.

I prefer Gray to Grey definitely because if it's Gray then it's about the sound. If you spell it Grey then it really does become all about the colour. I wouldn't even wear Grey tbh. My school uniform was so boring with a lot of grey and even now I can't bear to wear grey.

ps, used to be a german guy working for a company we did business with and his name was brun schidt. (or something along those lines - whole office found it embarrassingly close to brown shit though)
