Gray for a boy?

i love it but DH thinks it's too unusual. In fairness I've never met a Gray so that does make it unusual. I don't mind an unusual name so long as it doesn't result in him being hugely made fun of in school.

What do you think?

As long as the child isn't bullied about his sexuality - or dullness. Gay Grey.

In my new job I started with a Gray.

He's variously been misspelled on new starter forms, rotas etc as Gay, Guy, Greg and Gary. Doesn't seem to bother him which makes me wonder if this happens quite a bit!

Just throwing this in but what about

Shay

?

It's like a Shane trying to be cool which is slightly better than a graham trying to be cool.

or Jay. Just Jay, or Jay as a nn for James. Or Jacob.

Thought I'd post an update after all the advice I got here! I still really love the name but when I saw how divided opinion was here I decided against Gray. In the end I opted for a much much less controversial name - John.

These threads are a really useful way to test out a name; thanks to all for the opinions

I know of one, he is an Amerian, I don't like it.

I also know of a Brown. Really, Brown!

DigOfTheStump · 01/10/2011 11:00

ah sorry, late to the game ... congratulations on John, lovely classic name.

AvrilsAtonement · 01/10/2011 11:13

Thanks Dig.

Brown is unfortunate - can think of poo related teasing opportunities!

I like it, and know a man in his 40's known as Gray, lovely bloke!

CaptainMartinCrieff · 01/10/2011 19:08

It's a radiation unit... Measure of absorbed dose. Radiotherapy patients have for example 45Gy (Gray) in 25 fractions (treatments). For that reason alone I'd avoid it.

CaptainMartinCrieff · 01/10/2011 19:08

Ooops old thread I see apologies!
Congratulations!

I really like it, it's unusual without being difficult. It's also very elegant and will suit a grown up man Smile
