I need help! I'm due twin girls in 2 weeks, but am stuck about names! I absolutely love the name Sapphire. For me, its a perfect name. But I just can't find another girls name I like as much as Sapphire, and I really really don't want to let go of it for two other names I only quite like. Please please help me! What names do you think go with Sapphire well??

HerRoyalNotness · 26/06/2011 18:25

That is very tricky. I'm not much help but the first names that popped into my head were

Lola
Ruby
Scarlett
India

They however probably sound a bit twee together.

What are your other names?

ragged · 26/06/2011 18:26

I know that some will disapprove of theme names but either I'd go for another gemstone name, or for something similarly "precious" (like a flower).
Amber, Lily, Rose, Amethyst (nn=Amy), etc.

Jaspants · 26/06/2011 18:27

Do you want another gem name? I know sibs Sapphire and Amber.

Ruby, Pearl, Jade, Emerald

QueenKatie · 26/06/2011 18:27

HerRoyalNotness, thanks for your names, but I think I'd like a bit less popular names, and a bit more quirky!

Oooh I love Amethyst ragged

QueenKatie · 26/06/2011 18:29

Ooooh, thanks for suggestions. I like the idea of another gem names, I particularly like Amber and Amethyst.

Steel

QueenKatie · 26/06/2011 18:31

Just spoken to DH, he says 2 gem names sounds ridiculous, so we will have to scrap that idea........:(

Lots of gemstone names for babies.
Cerulean is cool imho.

ragged · 26/06/2011 18:33

oops, Xpost!
Why not let your DH choose, then, has he no favourites?

Jaspants · 26/06/2011 18:33

List here Coral is my fave on there

Bunbaker · 26/06/2011 18:33

I'm with your OH on this. Themed names are fine for family pets, but I don't care for them for children. I am not a fan of the name Sapphire, but don't let that put you off.

Jaspants · 26/06/2011 18:33

Ah ok, how about another blue related name then?

Jaspants · 26/06/2011 18:35

blues

BulletWithAName · 26/06/2011 18:35

Aurora?

QueenKatie · 26/06/2011 18:35

I knew a lady called Jonquil. She was lovely, gracious, calm and collected.

I've loved that name ever since.

GetOrf · 26/06/2011 18:38

Bijou? Bijou?

I agree with your DH - 2 gem names sounds insane.

What about:

Electra
Esme
Artemis
Hera
Leda
Iris

TangerineQueen · 26/06/2011 18:38

Wow, that's difficult.

I think I'd be wanting something really quite different for the other one, Ruby and Sapphire is a bit cutesy IMHO for example (you might love it though!)

Would also be careful of using the same initial for both. Have several friends who have serious post issues. Especially as overdrawn university students - didn't want their siblings reading their bank statements! I think you can go and make clear to the bank that they must print the first name on the envelope. Bit of a faff though.

So having said that I don't have loads of suggestions!

I suppose if you're going with Sapphire then you want something that also sparkles in it's own way? Not quite sure I've ticked any of those boxes!

Sapphire and Ariadne
Sapphire and Fionnuala (or the simpler spellings Finnola or Finola)
Aisling and Sapphire

Okay getting a bit Irish there...

Sapphire and Florence ... Firenze at a push!
Sapphire and Briona
A bit in vogue just now but Sapphire and Cordelia

QueenKatie · 26/06/2011 18:42

DH agrees on another blue name!!!
So shortlist is (for now!):
Aqua
Azure
Indigo
Marine
Midnight
Sky/Skye

Sorry, forgot to add the reason i mentioned the name was because it was a green cool colour that would sit nicely next to blue sapphire.

MelinaM · 26/06/2011 18:45

Sapphire and:

Ariadne
Artemis
Artemisia
Aurelia
Aurora
Chiara
Delilah
Gaia
Ingrid
Isadora
Lavinia
Ophelia
Paloma
Perdita
Summer
Tabitha
Talullah
Tamara

I'm not keen on Midnight. It sounds like the name an expensive lady of the night or a topless model might have.
