Which perfectly nice names do you really dislike for no reason you can put your finger on?

I don't mean names that you think are:

'posh' (Fenella)
'chavvy' (Kayden)
'princessey' (Annabelle)
'hypheney' (Ellie-Mae)
'illiterate' (Mykal)
'ubiquitous' (Ruby)
'celeby' (Britney)
and so forth.

I mean names which for absolutely no reason you can put your finger on, you really really dislike. They don't come with associations or baggage, you just don't like it.

The test is, if you can say: "I don't like it because...(it reminds me of a horrible kid in primary school/it's really dated/ I know fifteen of them)" then it doesn't count. There has to be absolutely no justifiable (or unjustifiable) reason for your dislike of it.

For me: Hazel.

I just think it's really a horrid name.

dislike most girls names with a g in them anywhere . at the start .a hard g to hard / mascuiline and a soft g to poncey .

all 3 letter names eg ava , amy , tom etc names just seems lazy sorry . really irrational

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2011 12:52

Actually, I am not keen on girls' "G" names especially the female versions of George; Georgia, Georgina etc, although there is no rational reason why. Not even association, as I have friends and rellies with these names.

There are many perfectly lovely names which set my teeth on edge.

In no particular order and wishing to cause no offence to mothers-of:
George (I can't even say it without my mouth going all slack and gormless)
Henry
Edward/Frederick - these are the same name to me, in that they both conjure up a fat bloke in a beige mac with BO who lives with his mother and wears white socks and too short trousers. His palms are sweaty.Or hairy. Or both.
Joshua- shwishyshwoshy. Makes me salivate.
Finlay/Finley-(although I dislike that because it's common, not just because of a personal foible)

Emily/Lucy as Frederick/Edward are one,so are these. Wet wet wet.
Amelie- urgh. (though I find it a bit Finlay-esque) I always imagine it being said with a really strong black country accent.

Disclaimer: my own daughter's name is on here several times!

bananamom · 04/04/2011 14:54

Evie (weak and blah)
Daisy/Maisie(common & faddy)
Isla (weak and wet)

Charlie/Alfie (see Daisy/Maisie)
Theo (sounds so twee and cutesy)
Harry/Henry (just dislike)
