My pair aren't in the top 100 which is amazing as they are quite ordinary names!

bytheMoonlight · 29/10/2010 23:13

Love Pearl

hester · 29/10/2010 23:33

[weeps quietly]. dd's name continues to rocket up the list. How comes everybody had the same idea, at the same time, the year I was pregnant? Her name was quite unusual before that!

NormalityBites · 29/10/2010 23:42

My DD is safely outside the top 2700 Grin

I'm outside the top 250....DP is in the top 40 though - commoner Wink

SpringHeeledJack · 29/10/2010 23:48

289 Maximilians?????

Envy

wish I'd thought of that

rachel1970 · 30/10/2010 14:39

The problem with Maximilian is that it will end up as Max.... it's just too long to use regularly imo.

sophiesmummie · 30/10/2010 15:53

The list of ALL the boys and girls names used last year is really interesting. Given how many names were used (5000ish for boys alone)it seems a shame so many of use the same names...with over 7000 boys named Oliver and another 7000 Jack Shock.

noeyedear · 30/10/2010 17:02

Interesting that no one was "Yoo-Neeq!" With both boys and girls names, at least 3 babies had the same name!

tummytickler · 30/10/2010 17:26

Noeyedear - they do not publish the names given to only 1 or 2 babies for privacy reasons.

InGodWeTrust · 30/10/2010 17:33

My son is Elijah. Thankfully I know no one else with this name...and it's dropped from 136 to 140...so I guess that's something.

noeyedear · 30/10/2010 18:01

Oh! Thanks! That would have saved me trawling down to the end of the list to find the truly unique names if I'd known that! Although, why would it be for privacy reasons? The only thing on the list is the first name!

IGWT - I have an Elijah too - he is nearly 8, I would love to find out how popular it was when he was born in 2002!
I am always disapointed how popular it is, but it is so lovely!
Ours goes by Eli and gets really cross if you call him Elijah Grin.

bytheMoonlight · 30/10/2010 20:17

IGWT and tummytickler - do you get a good reaction to Elijah, it's top of our boys list for baby whose due on Monday!

BlairWaldorfsHairband · 30/10/2010 21:38

4 girls were called Tiaamii, which can only be after Jordan's daughter as they made up the name for her Grin

HumphreyCobbler · 30/10/2010 22:07

DD name is less popular than 2008. Ha to whoever it is on here that keeps saying it is the new Ruby

backonthedecaff · 31/10/2010 09:20

Can't believe so many people are stressing about where their baby names are on the list! Number 1 or 1000, what does it matter? I've got two in the top 10 and one way out of it but at least they won't have to spell out their names every time it's asked for. Surely the only important things are whether you like the name and whether it will make your child an object of ridicule for the sake of being 'original'...

ColonelParsons · 31/10/2010 09:56

Only 69 girls were called DD's name last year, I think that's pretty good going.

backonthedecaff - I get what you mean, but DH and I both have names that rarely fall out of the top ten and there were 7 girls in my year at school with the same name, it was awful! We gave DD a name we came accross in a book for names dating from 1913 with the hope that she wouldn't have the same problem. It's very pretty, but unusual. And suits her perfectly :)

InGodWeTrust · 31/10/2010 19:40

I do !! The majority of people always say; "Oh wow what a lovely name".

There are the 1/4 educated who say,
"After Elijah Wood"
Me: "No after the biblical Prophet"
Them: Blank expression.

I love it! Plus I know he'll be the only one in his class with it...Problem is I didn't think it through and his initials are EDAM. Bugger.

InGodWeTrust · 31/10/2010 19:42

Tummy Tickler- mine is only 8 months !! I didn't consult a baby list, I thought I was having a girl (women's intuition my backside)...I'll wait and see for the abbreviations of Eli, Jah and Lije come....

For anyone else who cares if I was going to have a girl I was going for Ophelia (from Hamlet) until I realised it translated to either servant or serpant. THankfully I had a boy.

Scorps · 31/10/2010 19:47

Lacey is 67, that's fine with me!

HRHCavey · 31/10/2010 20:20

I like to scroll to the very end of the list and see what "unusual" names have been used.

Whilst I am sure TITOBILOLUWA is a lovely name in the parents' mother tongue, I can see the 3 girls given this name in 2009 ending up with a rather unfortunate nickname at school.

And as for the 3 girls named PORSCHE, I take it their parents are petrol heads or unable to spell "Portia"

[judgemental hat firmly on]

sungirltan · 31/10/2010 20:31

thansk for the link emmylou - only 5 other girls have dd's name in 09 :-)

TondelayooohSchwarlock · 31/10/2010 20:39

My DS's name has plummeted in popularity...from the top 700 to the top 900 Grin

tummytickler · 03/11/2010 20:52

InGodWeTrust - my Elijah has a 'D' middle name too - David!
