Found 'the one' - and it's not Beauden [grin]

Hi everyone,

Well, after a few days of constant name games, me and dh are sorted. Thanks to everyone's help we have decided not to go with Beauden after the BAD reaction on here. Or Indigo or Lyric or Soren. Lots of you still will hate our choices but I think you know when you have decided because you don't care less anymore what others think (in a nice way).

Soooo. our final choices are:

Girl: Sonnet Melody
Boy: Winter Beau Alexander.

See, I still have my Beau in there Grin.

I think these fit in really well with our other dc. The only big problem is that we have an Autumn so it may well sound contrived. But they aren't going to be joined at the hip and will have their own identities.

One last favour!!!

Can anyone suggest a nice third name to go with Sonnet Melody? (Our other three have all got two middle names so I want to do the same).

Was thinking perhaps:

Sonnet Melody Grace
Sonnet Melody Eve
Sonnet Melody Erin

Want a classic name she can fall back on if she hates her other two names.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. I think I can almost leave these boards in peace now Grin

I think Arizona is lovely for a girl actually... Hmm your already happy with the girls though aren't you so il leave it... Altho I really really do think Melody Rose or Melody Sonnet flows so much nicer and Autumn and Melody sound so lovely together I can just imagine them being uber sweet.... Anyways tangent over hmm I can certainly agree it would be plain wrong to name your ds Winter with his big sister being Autumn! I do quite like Beau but def prefer Alexander. Your wanting something naturey though aren't you? Well I know a hospital which is one of the finest in the world with some of the kindest staff and every ward has a nature name some I think you could use ((in order of my preference :) )) Cedar, Rowan, Mapel, Hawthorne (bit out there but could be a future rock star...) Redwood (Red is quite a nifty nn actually...)) any tickle your interests?? All the best with your labour I hope it goes well for you and your lo

arizona, read this about the cypress tree and see if it changes your mind at all - yes, associations with cemeteries in the southern/hotter European countries but also with spiritual immortality. :)

I like Cypress.

Linden is too close to Logan
Acer is indeed a computer company
I would suggest Jacaranda, nn Jack, but it sounds too much like a girl's name.
Juniper is nice
Don't choose Aspen - Ass is not good and there is also the potential to nn him Aspie, which has other connotations.

You don't like Sorrel?

What about Redwood?
Bamboo?
Mahogany?
Teak?
Ash? (Latin name Fraxinus)

arizonagirl · 04/10/2010 00:27

Jem1980 and LetThereBeRock - you both mention Silvanus....made an impact. Cyan...that did too. Thank you. Lola0109 - thank you too, and say hello to dp. Like Bay from your list but probably a bit short.

Secretwishescometrue - yes, I do like Melody but know she would be nicknamed Mel (which I really dislike). Thumbwitch - about to look at your thread Smile. I like Juniper - dh doesn't.

Do you know what - I've made a decision.

If it's a girl, she will be Sonnet Melody Rose.

If it's a boy, he will be.... Dave.

Kind of pinning my hopes on a girl...

Cyan ----> cyanide

LetThereBeRock · 04/10/2010 00:41

I like Dave.Grin

lola0109 · 04/10/2010 00:57

Couldn't you use sonnet?

Sonnet Melody Rose

or

Sonnet Beau Alexander

Bumperlicious · 04/10/2010 01:10

Loving this thread & the op :)

thumbwitch · 04/10/2010 01:27

I thought of Silvana too but obviously girl - didn't quite make it to Silvanus!

Meant to say as well that Jem is a nn for James or Jeremy as well.

Bagpusstree · 04/10/2010 08:33

How about Cyrus, similar to Cypress but not, a persian lord or something though so not nature related. Or Sirius - the brightest star seen from earth, or Cirrus - a cloud formation?

Good luck with the birth though Arizona, I'll be watching closely for the name announcement Smile

arizonagirl · 04/10/2010 09:35

Morning. Fed up. Loving Cypress but can't get over the sombre meanings. Wondering what people think out there and whether it would put them off if is a tree found in cemeteries? Dh doesn't think it is a problem but I suspect it is to me (and one I will always think about). Actually, I eliminated Everest for that reason (ever rest - a common name for funeral homes apparently!)

So I suspect we are onto Take five. Like the idea of Sirius but it sounds too like 'serious'. Kind of like Jupiter and Atlas but they are rather wacky. How about Bob?

thumbwitch · 04/10/2010 09:38

I might have it - how about Caelus? from the Latin for sky - whaddya think?

CuppaTeaJanice · 04/10/2010 09:38

arizonagirl - Here is a link that might help you.

It's a list of all the trees at Bedgebury Pinetum in Kent. Lots of different varieties of Cypress and other Fir and Pine trees. Latin names and Common names. I only had time for a quick look but there were some nice sounding names there - maybe your baby's perfect name will be in the list!!

(The link is a pdf so if the link doesn't work just google Bedgebury Pinetum and click on 'list of trees'.)

EauRouge · 04/10/2010 09:39

I love Bob. You have wonderful taste in names Grin

thumbwitch · 04/10/2010 09:40

wiki on Caelus

arizonagirl · 04/10/2010 09:55

Thanks girls. Off out but just saw your posts. Something to look forward to searching later. I take it you agree Cypress is not a good idea? Think I know the answer. Cyrus and Sirius vetoed by dh who now loves Snowden. Ho hum.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 04/10/2010 10:02

Another idea - Zephyr? A type of wind, so still nature-related. Mistral is another, but a bit more girly, I think.

DanceInTheDark · 04/10/2010 10:10

a big fat no to Snowden from me!

Also Cypress makes me think of either a big black rapper with a HUGE medallion with a dollar sign (no idea why Blush) of Cyprus the place.

I have heard of a Cassius and an Atticus born locally recently.

LOL @ LetThereBeRock "I like Dave" Grin

BonzoDooDah · 04/10/2010 10:11

I really like Cypress and it has no cemetry implications for me - I always think of yew trees in cemetries not cypress. The spiritual meaning of cypress anyway - a sort of 'guardian of the souls' is quite a powerful one and not creepy at all. And it goes so well with your other names.

Just another thought - with all these initials - check out they don't mean something commonly odd using an accronym finder.

I love Jem for its To Kill a Mockingbird reference but it always seems like a nn not a full name (Jeremy, Jemmima etc)

Hoping the birth goes well and you are not stressing too much about it.

BonzoDooDah · 04/10/2010 10:18

If he was Cypress Alexander Beau he'd spend his life hearing "call me a cab"

JustKeepSwimming · 04/10/2010 10:24

I quite like Cedar now

Cedar Beau Alexander? (CBA though, not so good!)

earlyriser · 04/10/2010 10:32

Oh I love Zephyr, what a cool name!

Bagpusstree · 04/10/2010 11:28

I quite like Cypress, didn't think of cemeteries and funerals at all. If you like it..... However if you now have cemeteries in your head then maybe not! I do think it goes well with you other names.
I'm not bothered by initials either, I already have an IT and his now overdue sister will be ET - What an awful awful mother that makes me, non? The only time I see it being noticed is when someone engraves 'I heart IT' on their school desk, and that is clearly going to happen a lot, he's that gorgeous Grin

Secretwishescometrue · 04/10/2010 12:28

Cedar Beau Alexander is great! Autumn and Cedar go really well I think, don't think Autumn and Bob has quite the same flow...

dizietsma · 04/10/2010 12:34

Most people will know the Cypress and cemetery association from Van Gogh, and him being so famous and all means quite a few people will know about the symbolism. Personally, I don't mind Cypress as much as the others.

Please, please no Atlas. Quite apart from anything my Ayn Rand objections, do you really want the "carrying the world on his shoulders" association for your child? That's quite a symbolic burden!

Jupiter will become "Jupe" which sounds rather like "Dupe", so I wouldn't go for that either.

How about, and I'm giving away one of my possible wacky son names here, Enkidu?

nannynobnobs · 04/10/2010 14:16

I like Sylvan or Sylvester (lots of tweety pie jokes for that though!) Sage, Sirius (it makes me think of gary Oldman which is a Good Thing). I prefer Linnet to Sonnet, but I love the book The Children of Green Knowe which has a lovely little Linnet in.
