I keep hearing on here that it is a really common name and there are dozens of them etc. It seems really unusual where we live (W. Yorks) and I'm wondering if there is a regional bias or whether it is just the kid of name that people notice IYSWIM.

ReasonableDoubt · 20/07/2010 20:31

I know two Majas (one adult, one child), a Mia (Mee-ah - a child), a Mya (little girl) and a Maia (little girl). I also know a Maya pronounced May-ah, who's a baby. Am in London. It is fairly popular, but not as much as Isabella/Isobel etc or Ellie/Ella. i can think of loads more popular names.

strandedatsea · 20/07/2010 20:31

I know one Maya but I live in St Lucia so quite far from you

Back home I live in the SW and know one Maia (pronounced May-a rather than My-a)

FranSanDisco · 20/07/2010 20:34

I live in Greater London. I know lots of Mayas, some pronounced My Ah, some May Ah. It is popular amongst White British and Asian Families who prefer the May Ah pronunciation. It's a lovely name

SirBoobAlot · 20/07/2010 20:37

Two under 1s.

nigglewiggle · 20/07/2010 20:37

Thanks. I thought it might be more popular down south. Do any Mias pronounce their name as My-ah? I would always have thought that was Mee-ah.
