Stitch and bitch #7. Hanging by a thread

And I have suddenly realised I am trying to cut out the maxi dress , not the mid calf . Its obviously just too hot …..😂

@SBAM I have made the Lloyd & Lola Llama quilt from Elizabeth Hartmann and really enjoyed it. That one looks really fun.

I have just finished my Deer & Doe Myosotis dress (the one that I was having problems with the buttonholes with). During the course of sewing it I:

-Messed up the buttonholes
-Sewed a sleeve inside out
-Managed to catch the skirt in the overlocker and so taking a chunk out

What a series of disasters. I have "fixed" the overlocker error with a bit of sewing, a piece of interfacing and the hope that no-one will notice because the pattern is quite busy. I may fix it after my holiday, but I've no time before.

I recently had a project like that, @Wildernesstips and that did include the obligatory overly hungry overlocker. I covered that bit with a pocket!

I haven’t had a hungry overlocker issue yet but wouldn’t rule it out in the future.

My worst disaster in recent times was a bit of over enthusiastic curve clipping which took a chunk out of the fabric in the front. The annoying part about it was that the garment was actually finished and I was doing a bit of fiddling. Lesson learned. Luckily I had enough scraps left to make two bias strips and stitched them on the front as a feature

Yes, that was the case with me too Jins - I didn't need to overlock it but wanted it to look tidy! Well it sure doesn't now!

Off to Jersey tomorrow and I haven’t done any sewing. It’ll all have to wait for a while now.

I’ve just finalised Mr Jins anniversary present and hidden it away. 30 years so Pearl anniversary. I couldn’t see him in a necklace a la Harry Styles so he’s got a lucky dip of things that have Pearl on the label. I was quite lucky with the Latin for Pearl as well so margaritas are on the menu. Some of the items are absolutely crap. Can’t wait to see his face 🤣

I spent a lot of time with my seam ripper on Sunday and remembered why I’d previously given up on my shirt. It’s just way too easy to accidentally make holes in this fabric. Anyway it all looks a bit better now, if I ignore the holes in the collar stand. I think I can hide it with a strategically placed button and button hole 🤞

I also bought myself a tailor’s ham and a book on shirt making. Things are getting serious here!

Honestly it’s been fantastic fun. Do they still make Pearl Drops tooth polish? Turns out they do so that’s in the bag. Pearl barley - check. 🤣

I’ve checked his music collection and there’s no Pearl Jam so that’s been rectified.

We normally don’t bother but I like to be unpredictable.

@Jins you sound fun, I’d have probably struggled to get beyond mother of pearl cufflinks or something. I’ll mentally file that away for 20 something years time.

I am impatiently waiting for my fabric to arrive to start cutting my teeny tiny pieces for the quilt. Probably should tidy my sewing room first so I don’t lose anything!

For now I have given up on sewing clothes! Utterly dissatisfied with what I have produced.... So I'm going to stop, do something else and pick it up again later...

Heading for 37th anniversary (next year) which is apparently alabaster- I think we'll ignore that and treat it as 'good food' so I can book my favourite restaurant 😂

We've all been there. I once stopped for a few years and even now there can be a few months between projects if I'm not feeling it.

Try and remember though that you learn more from the projects that go wrong than the ones that go perfectly.

If you have something that is tried and tested ease yourself back in again with something that you know will work, when you are ready.

I wouldn't ruin an anniversary with Cristal Champagne! In my opinion it's not worth the huge price tag.... I found it to be very acidic and almost tasteless which I didn't expect for the price. The box is nice, the story behind the flat bottomed bottle mildly interesting but it's hype.... (I'm no expert but after many years in hospitality, including many tastings and courses, I'm quite opinionated!)

This anniversary thing is quite fun - how many sewing or crafting related items can be included I wonder?

This year was Bronze, for us. We choose something nice, together (ish), loosely around the theme, some years more loose than others.
