Hello, the old thread fizzled out after christmas, so here is a brand spanking new one.

You don't have to be at all particularly talented just enthusiastic

I have got a great 70's sewing book Golden Hands Dressmaking. Found it in Oxfam for £3 it is great and makes things look much easier than you expect them to be. I just love the polyester psycodelic(sp?) printed fabric they use too

Hi everybody. Nice to see some new faces mixed in with the old!

I have no specific "to-do" list but as I'm in 6 quilting Bees I have a mass of blocks to finish - especially as we've been in Boston for a week over Easter.

I have a quilt to make for an American Charity that gives them to children in need. I have the fabric - just need to choose a pattern and get on with it - as per usual

A friend also wants me to make another roman blind for her - so need to get the bits together for that.

I'm made a resolution to get my but into gear and actually turn some of my fabric stash into sellable items

Alicetheinvisible · 12/04/2010 08:47

Dizzy - i am going to make roman blinds for our sitting room bay window, so may be on here asking you daft questions about how to do it!

Right, I lost momentum after I finished the scrapbook project and haven't done anything since. (Apart from flicking through retro craft books, but that's not really productive is it? )

I'm going to pin the sleeves onto the sweater that I didn't get finished in time for Christmas.

wastingaway · 12/04/2010 23:50

I've finished it!!!!

I shall take a picture tomorrow and add to the FB page.

Pheebe · 13/04/2010 12:37

Hi Everyone
You've inspired me to get my sewing machine out...only to find it no longer works! Probably just as well as I've booked to do a table at a craft fair 1-2 May!! Bath cosmetics one day and crochet goods the second. My crochet hook is read hot but I'm determined that this hobby will pay for itself (and a few treats too).

Out of interest, what kid of stuff would you buy at a craft fair? I'm making loads of kids scarves (summer weight) and cute bags, hats, toys, baby blankets, hair bands, flowers for jazzing up clothes and accessories, baby clothes...

Pheebe · 15/04/2010 19:26

I've killed the thread haven't I

snickersnack · 15/04/2010 21:02

Maybe they're all too busy crafting? I don't generally go to craft fairs expecting to spend a lot of money, so for me, smaller items are more appealing. I would buy baby clothes for presents, little things for dd's Christmas stocking etc. But I do like it when people have bigger items on display, or a folder of their work, plus some business cards with a web address on - several times I have gone away and ordered something bigger later.

JackBauer · 16/04/2010 07:12

Hello, am still here but lost net access for awhile
Have been very busy making stuff, made a crochet mini doll with some clothes and soem tutus, as well as a load of small crochet animals and finger puppets. No MN makes for busy fingers

Thanks for that snickers, I am not doing craft fairs but a friend and I have organised a table at the school fete thigns and are making things to sell for a few quid along with 'larger' stuff to just have inc ase anyone fancies it, based on what you said sounds like that is the right thing to do!

wastingaway · 16/04/2010 22:55

Hello! Sorry Pheebe, kept meaning to reply and then it dropped off Threads I'm On.

Cute and quirky would be good I'd imagine, something people will see and think 'Ooh, I've never seen anything like that before.'

Glad you're back with us Jack.

I forgot to upload the photo of the jumper, I'll do it soon, I'm not lying honest.

And in recent news, I have just put the final stitches to a very difficult cross-stitch picture that I began in 1993.
I shed a little tear. It's an enormous weight lifted off of me. I've got to wash it carefully and get it framed for a Christmas present yet, but the stitching is done!

Pheebe · 19/04/2010 08:03

Thanks guys, this is what I was thinking. I'm getting very nervous now but excited too I think!

My neices have just asked me to make them some leg warmers and gauntlets out of the brightest pink wool I've ever seen. Can't believe I used to wear that colour as a teenager

pookamoo · 19/04/2010 12:28

Hello ladies, can I join you?

We're having a moratorium on crafting in our house at the moment because we have been planning to redecorate the study/craft room since before Christmas and really need to get it clear so we can get on with it!

My snb doesn't count though so I'm liking my knitting in the pub on Tuesday nights. I am about to re-knit a little hat for a friend's baby which came out 3 times too big, oops!

Hurrah for "benign neglect" and crafting!

overmydeadbody · 19/04/2010 13:59

Phoebe I would buy shocking pink leg warmers!

I have finished cutting out 440 triangles for bunting now that will make 220 finished triangles. Sor far I have sewn just under 50 of them. I may upload a photo when they are all complete!

Hi everyone, I keep lurking on this thread & thought i should actually join in!

I have always crafted but tend to get a bit excited about something, go & bit mad & spend lots of money on my new found hobby & then lose interest before actually making or finishing anything!

Got boxes of card making & scapbooking gear stuffed in boxes all over the house but just dont seem to have the space to get it out & make anything anymore as I have to put it all away again before the boys get up in the morning! at those of you that have "craft rooms"

I have just dusted off my Mums old Bernina & got back into sewing. I bought "sew hip" and seem to want to make everything in it! lol

On the plus side I have just finished my first ever patchwork quilt (machined). It is made from lovely bright aqua, green & beige flannel & folds into a pillow (I think the actual term is a quillow) I have bought lots of car theme fabric from ebay to make another blanket for my other son. And I am also in the middle of attempting making this bag except I enlarged the pattern from A4 to A3 and have interfaced the lining. Hopefully that will be finished this week!

Alicetheinvisible · 19/04/2010 16:30

You lot are actually doing stuff i am so fecking lazy.....

This week i am going to attempt a mock up of a roman blind out of some old sheeting, then going to use my leftover JL vouchers on this fabric for my blinds for the sitting room bay window. Will let you know how i get on......

skiffler · 19/04/2010 16:30

I'm just lurking in shame, because I have done absolutely nothing since my last post (not even tidying up the spare room/sewing room, which desperately needs vacuuming up all the loose threads!).

I am still here though, reading everyone's posts and adding to the growing list... (love that bag, YoMoJo)

JackBauer · 19/04/2010 17:59

Ooh, yomojo, I ,love that buttercup bag, it's been in my bookmarks in my 'to do someday' folder for ages (which has so many links in it can't show them all at once)

I have been trying to finish DD1's crochet dress which I am making ina blue kinda shiny acrylic. It's taking aaaages, the skirt is 19 rows and it has taken me a mnth to do 10 rows! not even started the bodice!

I have made a load of finger puppets (on FB group pics page and here) for presents. In fact I spent all saturday evening making 3 finger puppets and a pink and gold tutu for 2 parties we had on sunday, and then DD1 threw up as soon as she woke up and spent the whole day weeping and feverish on the sofa

Just taken all our temps, DD's are pushing 38, DD1 on the way down, DD2 on the way up.
I am 38.5. Bugger.

FlyMeToDunoon · 19/04/2010 19:19

Hello. I would like to join in the hopes that it will spur me into actually finishing something.
My list goes:
Turqoise knitted bolero/cardigan. Started October 2008.
Very 1980s cardigan in Rowan by the woman who collaborated with Kaffe Fasset [?]

Lots of felt
Lots of fabric

Beads
Sequins

Fabric, black fleece, velcro and patterns to make pushchair liners

All lying unused or unfinshed.

I have made quilts. My first was hand quilted and machine finished. My mother still has it as a throw on her sofa. It was madly made with silks and different weights of cotton but has held together quite well. I like the excitement of piecing but some of the rest is a bit tedious. Cutting and making binding for instance.

YoMoJo · 19/04/2010 19:52

oooh - pushchair liner is also on my list - have got fed up with my maclaren - & have pinched my Mums £5 car boot jobby which is so much lighter & easier to push but is an ugly 80's fabric.

I also need new front room curtains & cushions & havent found any I like but my work friend only charges £20 for making them up (I have a BIG bay window) so I am not sure whether they will be on my "to do" list or hers!

Jack - you have made some cool things & I bet they are quite quick to do to! (I like quick things) I have never learnt how to crochet, a shame really as my Nan made beautiful blankets & I had all those loopy cardigans & hats when I was little but sadly it's too late to ask her.

FlyMeToDunoon · 19/04/2010 20:39

Right I have unearthed the two knitting bits. Can tell you now that the turqoise one is a Twilleys pattern in Freedom Spirit.
The 1980s one is by Zoe Hunt.

I too taught myself to crochet when I was about 10. Must have been a bit odd as I loved to do very old fashioned lace patterns, doilies and edgings.

overmydeadbody · 19/04/2010 20:50

I love the bag YoMoJo!!!!! Have just bookmarked it.

Jack don't worry, it wasn't me who counted it, it was my slightly more obsessive BF who very kindly calculated whether or not I had enough triangles to make 50m of bloody bunting.

I bought some new sunglasses today so have decided to make nice soft fabric cases for them so they don't end up at the bottom of my handbag with half a jammy dodger and some crisp crumbs stuck to them.

JackBauer · 19/04/2010 21:12

I made a pushchair liner ages ago, was pissed off with the fact that the top bits came off + then had to be put somewhere. I got a fake sheepskin type dog blanket and hemmed it in an inverted T and then folded in the sides and backed it with some stripy fabric. Zip down the middle and ties sewn on top to fix. Was awesome, could just zip or unzip and then fold the edges under their bum. And i did it all by hand [smug]
Although it only lasted 18 months and then fell apart [ not so smug]

FlyMeToDunoon · 19/04/2010 22:04

My first prototype is annoying me by sliding down constantly. The second had velcro to attach to the Maclaren XT.
However years ago when I had first DD I made one which stayed in place because it was slightly stiff, being ........quilted

Alicetheinvisible · 20/04/2010 08:23

Do any of you use a tutorial for buggy liners? I was thinking about getting a sheepskin to line my huge 3 wheeler as it is still structurally fine, but looking a bit grubby and tired and feels a bit wrong to put a newborn in it
