My art - do you like it?

I'm a "naive artist" and paint for fun. Don't know if it's totally rubbish or not. Would appreciate some honest opinions!

I really like it but it’s very similar to a well known artists work. Margo in Margate . I have one of her prints and thought this straight away.

I thought this too.

I don't know if this helps but I don't feel anything when I look at your pictures (apart from a bit freaked by the foetus - sorry and sorry that you lost your baby).

I guess that is quite telling actually. The one picture that did make an impact on me was one where you were expressing something. I didn't like the picture but it did communicate with me.

I don't feel any expression being communicated from the others.

Maybe try to paint things that you have something to communicate to the viewer?

The three women in the first photos. I have no idea what feelings you are trying to express there tbh.

The joy of art is that it's subjective really. I suspect the lack of sales is a combination of a) being a successful artist is extremely hard, and requires enormous talent paired with enormous luck - the right article in the right magazine, the right influential buyer of a peice or whatever. And b) the market of artists is pretty saturated as now anyone can sell their stuff online, even if your work is truly unique how do people find it amongst all the rest?

When you get a website (try simple site) add #art of the day. Under new posts. That’s a very handy little phrase to use. Works on instagram too.

I don't mind the style but I wouldn't put a random face on my wall.
Perhaps a botanical theme in the same style or a landmark would be more commercial.

User7288339 · 09/02/2025 17:02

What are you trying to say with the face ones? What's the meaning behind it?
Feels very surface and one dimensional with no depth

narcASD · 09/02/2025 18:24

It's ok, not my type of art, my kids who are young draw similar type pictures / paintings so I associate them with kids drawings

Have you seen Picasso’s portraits?

Art is about self expression but you are following the crowd.

I think you tried something with the painting of your miscarriage (so sorry) but maybe it wasn’t the right choice at that time. Do you ever want to try slightly darker subjects again rather than what you think people want to see?

If you are happy with £20 every few years keep painting mainstream images.

😆 no disrespect to OP but I don't think she would compare herself to Picasso!
A naive style can still have depth.

I like thex3 women with closed eyes. What medium do you paint/work with?

I wasn’t suggesting she did but directing her to a subject relevant contextual study to help her develop as an artmaker. The journey begins with a single step.

If you want to sell pictures, put them on Artfinder rather than eBay. Folksy is also good.

Thanks for the tip.

Acrylic paint and marker pen mainly.

I'm familiar with Picasso ;-)

I can confirm I'm definitely not comparing myself to him!

I would say good but not great. Don’t give up but keep working at it to keep improving.
