I'm a "naive artist" and paint for fun. Don't know if it's totally rubbish or not. Would appreciate some honest opinions!

Nope

KhakiOrca · 09/02/2025 01:09

I would't buy it but each to their own. It doesn't really look very creative on the whole, perhaps just in your mind. But if you are interested in art then take up some lessons.

I love the orange one. They all have a great graphic quality while at the same time being quite emotive.

Yes, I like that.

The first one is one I sold.

I like these ones! And also the first with tje woman with closed eyes.

Oblomov25 · 09/02/2025 01:46

I'm afraid I don't like it. Sorry, Does nothing for me. I see can see the artistic talent though. But it's far too basic.

FreedomandPeace · 09/02/2025 01:57

Not my taste OP but does it really matter what others think.

Adropintheocean1 · 09/02/2025 01:58

I really like them actually and found them all
to be quite thought provoking. Especially the embryo one... It made me think about how we all start off like that and how my own children did, it obviously also made me think of loss as the embryo seems so weak and vulnerable. For some due to personal experiences it may provoke an uncomfortable reaction, but that is art! 😃 I’m in Brighton and I can imagine similar styles of art in many of my friends walls. Do you have a link to your sales
page?

This would make a great series of prints. Take a look at galleries and printers who do artists prints in series. Give your self space to experiment a little with abstraction. Don’t pigeon hole yourself as just one style. Take out the fearful eyes for a bit. Take a look at Picasso's portraits and cubism. Experiment with your own screen prints? There’s some great feedback on here, try to absorb some of it and make notes about how to progress/experiment. If you want some coaching pm me.

Don’t let negative critique squash your enthusiasm. Just absorb as much visual information as you can. It’s easy to squash peoples first efforts but wrong to do it. Try to do one small drawing every day. It’s like a promise to your self. Start with pencil, 2 or 3B.

Starlight7080 · 09/02/2025 02:31

They are brilliant. I really like how striking and bright they are

ChewbaccasMrs · 09/02/2025 03:56

I love the third one with the 3 pictures in and it's something I would have in my home.

farmlife2 · 09/02/2025 04:14

It's not my style and I wouldn't buy it - because I like isolated landscapes and generally don't like pictures of humans in my art anyway. So my preference is no reflection on your art or ability.

I like the simplicity of the drawings and the clean lines. To develop your style why not look into some community art classes? I also like the suggestion from the person who said they'd be good illustrating a book. Maybe you could be a book illustrator?

BubblePerm · 09/02/2025 07:41

Keep going, OP.
And treat yourself to "Start Painting Now" (book) by Emily Powell and Sarah Moore.
You'll be flying.

Eenameenadeeka · 09/02/2025 07:55

The one with the eyes closed looks really good

Frozenbees · 09/02/2025 07:57

I think it's good - sadly not my style, wouldnt look at home on my walls, but certainly i have seen more like this and it 100% has its audience.

PrincessPeache · 09/02/2025 08:21

I love them, very fun!

EnterFunnyNameHere · 09/02/2025 08:43

The joy of art is that it's subjective really. I suspect the lack of sales is a combination of a) being a successful artist is extremely hard, and requires enormous talent paired with enormous luck - the right article in the right magazine, the right influential buyer of a peice or whatever. And b) the market of artists is pretty saturated as now anyone can sell their stuff online, even if your work is truly unique how do people find it amongst all the rest?

parietal · 09/02/2025 09:01

If you want to sell pictures, put them on Artfinder rather than eBay. Folksy is also good.

YorkshireTeaDance · 09/02/2025 09:12

I like it and would buy it if I could afford it!

Cattreesea · 09/02/2025 09:44

When I saw that I immediately thought of Margo in Margate. Also Rusty Studio has a similar style: https://www.rusty.studio

I think you need to do a bit of work to make your style a bit more unique/develop your own voice.

Keep going! it takes a while to settle on a style that will make you stand out.

GBooArt · 09/02/2025 14:17

Thanks for all your comments and opinions, everyone. I've read every post and noted what you said. I really appreciate the time everyone has taken to reply, and also mentioning other artists, books etc that could provide inspiration.

It's not to my taste but if it makes you happy doing it then isn't that what matters?

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 09/02/2025 14:28

Just keep painting and let your style evolve. It’s a thing that takes time. It’s great that you are enjoying it, and even better that you are taking risks with it!

The foetus picture isn’t most people’s cup of tea, but keep trying new things and taking those risks and eventually the work will evolve until you find you have connected with an audience.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 09/02/2025 14:40

I like them (other than the foetus one, sorry). Keep painting and having fun.
