My art - do you like it?

I'm a "naive artist" and paint for fun. Don't know if it's totally rubbish or not. Would appreciate some honest opinions!

Regarding the latter ones, the one you sold is still exactly the same style as the previous ones that are flooding the market.

The bloodied foetus, I'm really not sure what to say about that or to whom it would appeal.

But as PP's have said, art is very subjective.

I wasn't being mean.

It looks liked jaundiced fetus.

Why would you sit down and think,
"Today I'm going to paint a fetus and make it yellow"

Paint flowers
Portraits
Landscapes..
Have a good at a happy little tree, bob Ross style.
Look at the work of Rubén Belloso Adorna..

Why? Because I was feeling sad about a previous miscarriage.

I'll check out the artists you mention.

Thanks for the comment. The foetus one was just for me. I haven't tried to sell it.

I think Margo is talented. Much better than me.

I've experienced miscarriage and still birth, the aftermath of such would not be eased by painting that or seeing that.

In fact, if I'd just had a miscarriage and I saw that image, I'd be sickened to my core.

Can you adapt to draw pets in the bright mug shot style? Perhaps with clothes? Dog in a beret and breton top. Perhaps multiples of the owner/s and the pet/s.

Nice idea.

If you start a thread asking if people like it you have to take comments. Art is divisive, even good art.

Throwingpots · 09/02/2025 00:12

Sorry, I'm not seeing much artistic talent in these but if you enjoy painting them then that's great. I wouldn't expect lots of sales though.

It was just for me and not for sale. I'll ask Mumsnet to remove it if you think it's inappropriate. Please let me know.

I personally don’t like it as I feel like in terms of quality (but it’s different seeing in person) it’s something you could paint in high school.

Maybe if the colouring was a bit more elaborate.

Chuchoter · 09/02/2025 00:17

Not my taste at all but good luck in your ventures.

A lot of community art workshops teach this style.

Which one? I used a biology book for the foetus picture. Otherwise the pictures are from my imagination.

I like the bottom right one with series of images in different colours. If you did them to order for people so silhouette from photo would they sell better so more creative than just photo and nice present? Also most people like animals so you could try some in that style too. The others I wouldn’t like for myself.

Fair response! I also thinking though, and the reason we bought our pieces was that we were so drawn to them, 1 for me, 2 for DP. As the space is so tiny, moving them before the exhibition ended would have ruined the curating, so we paid about 3 months before we could pick them up. But I wasn't leaving without securing my piece, and him too. So it needs to provoke a need, a strong emotion, and i don't think these do as such.

But the first ones as said would be good illustrations in books or on bags with slogans which isn't a bad thing.

Still, the main point is that you enjoy doing it and I didn't want to sound mean, sorry if it came across that way.

TomatoSandwiches · 09/02/2025 00:23

These ones would suit as highstreet fashion shop decor or perhaps a small artsy coffee shop/cafe.

You could replicate the same style but with animals and toys for children's rooms/nurseries.

Perhaps landmarks, bus stops, train signs or hot spots from your local area or places you've visited.

Keep going op, just make sure you enjoy it.

Yeah, I am under no illusion about making a living from my art! Sadly...

I'm an amateur portrait artist. My advice would be to go to some classes in your local art centre or even online and learn a little more about mark making and colour.
I think you have some skill and could develop it.
Just do it for the love of doing it 🙂

TaggieO · 09/02/2025 00:46

Honestly, it’s not amazing but if you enjoy it that’s what counts.
