Oh my, the last thread got full! Hope you all find me. The title is rubbish.

Anyway. I'm off to decorate the thread.

@bruffin thank you!

@StillNiceCardigan That's gorgeous! I saw the pattern on the website the other day and though of you :-) And the SPEED at which you completed it! I'm currently on the sleeves for my cardi and most of those still to go - the body is done I just need to summon up the courage to pick up for the button bands, so I skipped to the sleeves first. Am I the only one whose heart sinks when it says "pick up 120 stitches EVENLY along edge". and the number of stitches does not have a easy relation to the number of rows.....

I’ve nearly finished a sweater vest for DD. I’m using up some lion brand Mandela that I had left over. It was working nicely until I got to the orange and now I don’t love it. I’ve nearly finished the ribbing on the neck, need to add ribbing to the sleeves and bottom. I think the bottom will definitely look better in the white that’s at the end of this cake but I don’t know if I should undo the orange and replace with white. Or if I keep the neck and sleeves in orange if the bottom will look weird in white. I think if it had been a larger size and had a chance to fade to the light orange or white, it would look better.

@Pottedpalm that looks beautiful! I too am quite new to this thread. I too am going to be starting knitting baby bits, its quite exciting. Where did you get your pattern? I think it would be a lovely one to knit.

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally How about cream? That would go nicely with your colours.

Love the wool too.

PaulCostinRIP · 30/01/2024 10:09

I've had a row with HobbyCraft! 😬

I've been a customer for years and love the Women's Institute dk yarn for blanket making.

But out of the blue I've had a problem caused by them and their rudeness and not sorting it out has made me decide that they can lose my custom!

I don't like stylecraft dk or Deramores. Wendy is ok and I quite like Bonus dk but would love some recommendations for other acrylic dk yarn brands. Thank you.

Oh and I bought some dk yarn in Home Bargains but it's not terribly soft and the colour range was very limited. Any other shops as well as buying online will be greatly welcomed.

Heather37231 · 30/01/2024 10:27

in what way were they rude?

Pottedpalm · 30/01/2024 10:45

@RedDiamond its from Love Crafts, an Oge pattern called Azura. It’s lovely to knit; top down and no borders!

GlowWine · 30/01/2024 11:49

@Pottedpalm Yes top-down in one piece is my new favourite way of knitting things I've only recently disovered that. That is a very cute cardigan.

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally it's a shame you don't love it any more - I think it DOES look quite cool with orange especially if were to use it for all the ribbing but of course you have to do what's right for you, so maybe unpicking and directly switching to cream is the best solution. And I agree that orange edges is different to a gradual shift to orange in the main body.

I'm still on the boring part of my sleeves, and quite busy with other stuff so no progress to report.

LucyLoopyLu · 31/01/2024 10:44

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally I actually really like the orange and prefer it to the cream/white colour! Agree that if you're keeping it then it would be nice to use it on the other ribbing also.

If you're not loving it though, can you test some of the white on the ribbing at the bottom before you frog the orange, to see which one you prefer?

Hello everyone!! Can I join? I’m just starting to crochet a hippopotamus toy for my girls (one each). I haven’t completed a crochet project in a verrry long time so I’m hoping that this is the one that breaks the spell! They are made up of many many African flowers and I’m loving it so far.

Can I join too? I saw your post and thought I’d share my Happy Hippo, my 2 year old grandaughter loves him. The pattern is fabulous.

First attempt at increase with DC into.magic circle. Found the stitches quite tight and not sure I have two in every stitch? Plus I have a hole at the end?

Hi @longpathtohappiness that looks great, it looks like you might have only gone through 1 half of the loop on the last stitch, hence the hole. Although it might close up when you do the next round.

CrochetBug carry on then? No need to unpick?

CrochetBug · 11/02/2024 15:23

I'd keep going if it were me.

I did frog some of DD’s jumper to get rid off the orange and switched to cream with the peach to orange fade in and I think it looks a lot better. I really like it. DD, who wouldn’t take it off when I tired it on her part way, now doesn’t want to wear it. Toddlers, eh? But I think it’s nice.

I’ve got a few ends to sew in on a baby blanket for a baby due any day. I’ll take a photo of that when the ends are done. However, nothing else I’ve started seems to be any good. I’m just frogging everything at the minute. The drape isn’t right or it’s too holey, even changing my hook size by 0.5mm. Or I can’t get my tension right with different stitches. I’ve tried a few different projects now, with different yarn, different patterns and different hooks and all have ended up being frogged. I’ve completely frogged about 8 different attempts in the last week. I’m going to look for a cute amigurumi pattern and hope that brings back some confidence that I can vaguely do this.

tizwozliz · 18/02/2024 20:32

I've picked up my coast blanket project again. Not a great start, had to frog half a row as I'd missed a stitch at the beginning, then I realised I've used the wrong colour, then came to a knot in the yarn, then I've had to fix a mistake that must be in an earlier row but I couldn't spot. Also got a pup demanding tummy rubs so I've been about two hours and only done half a row.

@TooManyHobbiesTooLittleTime and @crochetcatsknitting , I love your Happy Hippo and Nellie the Elephant!

Alas I can’t crochet, but here is Ellie the Elephant saying hello to them - she’s gone now though, she’s a worry-eater (big mouth pocket) gone to Knit for Nowt to help a children’s therapist somewhere.
I’m now sewing up an Anxiousaurus but still have two of his feet to knit.

Hi all! I'm nearly at the end of knitting the front of dd's jumper. 'Just' the sleeves, neck finishing and then the bloody srwing up to do! It was meant to be finished by September Blush

Still... quite pleased with my pile of granny squares! Some of them will need to have a couple of rounds added so that they match in size, but I like the overall effect. I reckon I need to make half as many again to make a blanket to go on the end of my bed though!

RedDiamond · 26/02/2024 08:46

That looks lovely! It will make a beautiful blanket.

longpathtohappiness · 27/02/2024 13:56

I'm ready to throw all my crochet stuff away. I keep trying, practicing, watching YouTube but I don't think I'm made for crochet

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 28/02/2024 07:04

@longpathtohappiness what are you trying to make?
