jeangenie · 25/02/2008 16:36

I don't think I'd ever have the nerve to do a craft fair - I like the hiding behind the computer screen too much...

also [shudder] when I was young and broke I used to sell various handmade things on the street at christmas time - god I'd forgotten this! I had a large range of fimo jewellery (it was fairly yuk) then I moved into framed collages (DH's mum still has two on her wall at home, make me cringe every time i see them!)
before that I used to do pavement art with my best buddy, we'd copy out stuff and colour them in with chalk and pastels. We hit on the trick of doing the drawings onto huge sheets of brown paper rather than straight onto the pavement so we could sell them off after the end of our day. We always ran really fast in case the chalk started to come off on the people who bought them and they demanded their money back (although in our defence we did always spray hairspray on to try fix them at least)
how funny that I had consigned that set of memories to the deepest darkest recesses of my brain. My poor mother was constantly mortified by my antics...

anyway, the poor DD2 is sleeping - her energy levels are extremely low. She was up half the night though. Ergo my energy levels are really low. Thanks for the tip of that strange horse cream - we'll try it

did a watercolour painting with DD today, it's crap but it was fun

Fubsy · 25/02/2008 19:21

You know what worked when i had my card stall.....

DD and a friend took a basket of cards around the hall, offering them to people who were having refreshments etc.

It seems they are more likely to buy from a 6 year old batting her eyelashes than a grumpy mother behind a stall

blueamema · 25/02/2008 20:03

LK - crafty swap sounds great, thanks for coming to say hello

Jeangenie - I'm with you - craft fairs just make you cold and miserable!! I much prefer to do business from behind my laptop. Plus the preparation time is just silly and you really have to make lots of sales to cover table and insurance costs.

I go to dh's school every December and sit in his staff room at lunch (for free) and do great with sales.

rantinghousewife · 25/02/2008 20:36

Jg, hope you're coping with the pox ok?
And I just have to announce that, tah dah, I have finished my swap!!! So GM would you be a love and send me your address before dd claims it for herself!

Dingle · 25/02/2008 21:04

I must work on another to do list- I really need some direction in my life!!I am still full of flu and feeling rather fed up. I made 3 cards today using my new stamps.

One of DH's colleagues ordered the pink limo card for her friend's DD. Well today she gave DH an order of 4 more personalised cards...got to get my thinking cap on now!! Where did I leave it?

Whizzz, thanks for the heads up on the material
I'll keep it short!

JG, your days of youth sound fab
I'd love to meet you but no chance if you like to hide behind your computer lol

Meri, how weird is that pink opal! I've never seen it before.

I've ordered some green freshwater pearls and I'm hoping they will arrive tomorrow.

Gingermonkey · 25/02/2008 22:07

jg - sounds like my mis-spent youth too!!!
Dingle - love the new cards.

I'm off to Paris in the morning so I shall see you lot in Thursday when I get back, ooh la la!

Oh, and another thing - more swaps - yes please , sort it out LK/blue

Dingle - gorgeous! I love them

so, the poxy one is knackered, I'm knackered and now I find out my previously hale and hearty father has coronary heart disease and two of his arteries are so bad they think surgery isn't even a viable option
he just had an innocent run of the mill test last week, then they called him for an angiogram Friday and this news today.

I think I am in shock. Is this really bad then? anyone know? should post in health I guess, although am not sure I actually want to know. I always assumed he'd live til at least 103, at least...

jeangenie · 25/02/2008 22:14

yes - I did have a colourful and mispent youth!
wouldn't a giant meetup be great???

GM - have a ball in paree

off to surf the heart disease sites

lucykate · 25/02/2008 22:48

gm, you'll be wanting to visit, la droguerie then!

address is on the web site

JG I'm so sorry to hear aboutn your dad.

I can share my experience as my dad has been through a similar thing last year.

He was getting tingling in his left arm and feeling quite tired on occasions. One day he'd gone to work and felt really bad so he was whisked off to Hospital where they originally thought he's had a heart attack.
After angiograms, tests, tread mill tests and more tests, they discovered he had a severe narrowing of his main atery going into the heart.
They kept him in for 2 weeks and eventually transfered him to another hospital to have a stent fitted.

We're nearly a year on and he has improved but he cannot do certain things now like riding his bike to work or running.
He basically has to take things a bit easier.

It was a big shock to us all because he has always been a very fit and healthy man. He took part in marathons, attended a gym, lots of walking, riding his bike and he had a very healthy diet (both him and my mum are v serious veges).
But during all the tests they said that it was hereditory and that it was hsi father that had this kind of problem in the family.

I hope they can come up with some sort of solution for your dad.
There are many options and ways to help now.

Thinking of you and your dad.
xxx

jeangenie · 26/02/2008 11:34

thanks NBG and sorry to hear about your dad too, though it sounds like he is getting on with things as well as he can
it has come as such a shock to us too - my dad sounds a bit like yours - always very healthy, plays sport, walks a lot, eats really healthily, never smoked, doesn't drink a lot...he is 73 but you'd think he was 5-10 year syounger
apparently one of his arteries is so badly blocked in 4 places that they can't even do a bypass He is going on medication for 2 months and then they'll do the stress test (treadmill I think) again to see if its helping

he had some tingling etc a couple of weeks ago when on hols and his wife insisted he went to GP when he got back, but he really only did it to keep her happy, I don't think he ever expected this

I'm so glad to hear your dad is doing ok NBG, I just want to know this isn't terminal if it is managed ok, but that fact that he is so far gone they can't do a bypass has really thrown me

still home with DD2, poor mite is very pocky and itchy but being very good really. Was up a lot crying with the pain again last night. Watching telly now, and groaning.

Dunno when I will craft next...maybe some knitting later to keep me sane

Nbg · 26/02/2008 12:33

Try to stay positive JG. I know its hard especially with the info given to you but the meds could really help him.

My dads only 50 but I think no matter what age you are its a big shock.
More so if you've looked after yourself and your body.

jeangenie · 26/02/2008 12:46

thanks NBG I will - gosh your dad is so young - I guess it is good they found it sooner rather than later though if heriditary and all - I mean my dad is at least at an age where one is expecting something to crop up...50 is so young, only 11 years older than me (you must be very young too!)

Nbg · 26/02/2008 12:51

I'm 25, 26 in May

26! OMG

jeangenie · 26/02/2008 13:41

shaddup! you're but a babe. I'm now in my 40th year [falls over]

Nbg · 26/02/2008 13:56

I feeeeeel so old honestly.
It must be having 3 children that does it.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 26/02/2008 14:08

hello everyone - i've done nothing - i've totally lost the will to craft - really need to finish easter swap but i just feel really depressed and can't be bothered to do anything sorry to bring a downer in here.

sorry to hear about your dad jeangenie a friend of mine has had what sounds a similar condition - her arteries were in an awful state she had "stents" fitted and this helped - she was only in her 50's.

jeangenie · 26/02/2008 14:13

aah, that'll be it NBG - I stopped at two so am positively brimming with youth (NOT!)

VintageV - sorry to hear you feeling blue - would it help to set yourself one little target that you might enjoy and take it from there? often works for me if feeling down. If you can involve some chocolate as a reward so much the better...

vInTaGeVioLeT · 26/02/2008 14:18

yes maybe chocolate first - then craft - then choc etc etc

Nbg · 26/02/2008 14:20

Chocolate

I find looking through peoples blogs gives me a good kick up the behind.
