Ooops - we've filled the thread, best start a new one, eh?!

oh no JG!
You'll see more and more spots as the day goes on.

Little tip, dont give antihistimine until all the spots are out and start to scab as it can stop them coming out and they end up having cp longer.

jeangenie · 24/02/2008 09:48

she had about three before bed yesterday and has about 20 now. small, red, look a little blistery ...is that chickiepops? she was msierable yesterday and didn't eat anything all day - seems a bit perkier today though

do I need to keep her off? how long for? aarrrgh!

I bet the bigger one will get it now too

lucykate · 24/02/2008 09:57

sounds like cp to me jg, she's infectious until all the blisters have scabbed, can take up to a week.

both mine have had it, dd first, then ds and he was only 7 weeks old at the time. we though he was going to be ok, i think the incubation period is up to 21 days, and on the 21st day, the first blister appeared!

i used calamine cream rather than lotion, from boots, or benedryl cream which has antihistamine in it, other than the spots, both mine were not ill with it, bit grumpy the day before the spots came out, thats all.

Nbg · 24/02/2008 10:05

Yep that does sound like cp.

Like LK says, Calamine is good but doesnt smell particularly pleasant.

My dd had it early last year, then passed it on to ds who was about 20 ish weeks.
I kept her off preschool for a week and as I remember she was then on half term.

Gingermonkey · 24/02/2008 10:45

JG - you've got a week off work, unless big one gets it then you'll be off for 2!!!
Both of mine had it and were fine, just a bit grumpy. I love the smell of calamine - I could sniff it all day long, have to agree the cream is better, but I used the cream and the lotion on DS as he was only about 5 mths and I didn't want to use anti hists on him. Some children do get very poorly though - so be warned!!!

LK - yes please to another meet up soon!!!!!

You strange lady Ginger

Having said that, I like the smell of newborn baby poo so I cant really talk.

Gingermonkey · 24/02/2008 10:52

Nbg - me too ha ha ha. Freaks!!!

On a completely different note. I signed this the other day, go read the thread and sign the petition (nothing to do with crafting, but the talk of MCs the other day reminded me of it) - sorry to hear about yours LK and blue . My sil's sis has had 2 in the past year, and is in hosp now trying to cling on to her 3rd time lucky (we hope) baby to be.Here

Nbg · 24/02/2008 10:55

Oh I signed that the other day

I've had one miscarriage a month before I conceived dd.

All the best to your SIL's sister GM. I hope this little one hangs on.

Miaou · 24/02/2008 11:12

Hello folks, have been woefully absent from this thread for ages! I have now finished my cardigan (yay) and have made a bag as part of meridian's "blue and reused" challenge ... my next challenge is to get the photos in a viewable format! I made the bag from some old denim skirts and pinafores of dd2's and am quite pleased with the first one (I have enough for two bags) (for those of you on ravelry you can view my cardi on my profile).

I am now knitting a pair of trousers for ds2 with yarn I was given by a lovely MN friend who always sends me yarn for Christmas! I am doing pale blue/dark blue stripes and have completed one leg so far.

Meridian, I don't think I've got a login for the MN Craft blog ... can you give me the details and I will wrestle with the technology to share what I have made?

jeangenie · 24/02/2008 11:18

thanks for that link - have just signed - hope your SIL has good luck this time - my sister has been through the wars on this one too, and is currently about 7 weeks with her 6th pregnancy, she's got only one son to show for it all so far (but he's a great one !)

so, do I need to keep CP children actually IN then? DD2 is feeling ok I think, but one nasty pock behind her knee is causing a lot of distress...
HOPE dd1 gets it immediately

coiple of weeks off work sounds ok actally, but it'll hav eto be unpaid as I have no holidays left to take, which isn't so great

lucykate · 24/02/2008 11:41

jg, i suppose technically, yes, they should stay in until the are crusty!!, you might need to let anyone they have come into contact with know, have you had any other dc's round for your art classes lately?

Nbg · 24/02/2008 11:41

I'd plan lots of walks if I were you JG.
My dd went stir crazy (literally) when she had it.

lucykate · 24/02/2008 11:51

i have just made a really bad error of judgement , i wanted some small cushion pads, about 10", so thought i'd get a 22" one and make it into 4 smaller ones. have just cut into the large cushion and it was so filled with feathers, they have just exploded all over the place, i am covered in them.

i look and smell like a great big chicken

Nbg · 24/02/2008 11:58

pmsl LK

jeangenie · 24/02/2008 13:28

LOL LK (sorry!)

yes, have had kids around - DD2 (the stricken one) has been out at nursery each time though...still, I will tell them in case DD1 is incubating

also the kids we went to the farm with last week

so I can take her out for walks but just not to places with kids, people who might be pregnant etc?

(sorry am a bit dim about stuff like this!)

would like to do some knitting right now but they are very cranky

GM - probably won't get to Dulwich for your clothkit today now - sorry

Nbg · 24/02/2008 13:35

yeah just go somewhere quiet.
go feed some horses or ducks

Gingermonkey · 24/02/2008 15:06

lk - pmsl I'd have loved to have seen that!!!

JG - GOD!!! USELESS!!! HA HA HA, I'll let you off, seeings as you have the Pox in your house (but just this once, mind )

OP posts:
Gingermonkey · 24/02/2008 15:28

JG (and anyone else who's interested) clothkits is up and running - whoo!!!! I just bought some tea towels!!! LK - they're doing a Rob Ryan print skirt kit (not there yet) - I know you're a fan.
I need a smaller girl to make peekaboo dresses for (probably badly, but hey ho - I was brought up wearing clothkits, it's only right I inflict it on my children )

OP posts:
Nbg · 24/02/2008 15:32

OOOOOOOOOH CLOTHKITS!!!!!

Nbg · 24/02/2008 15:38

Yowza at the prices though!

Gingermonkey · 24/02/2008 15:50

yes, a little steep - but the doll kits are ok, £12 for a tea towel one or £16 for a full kit with stuffing etc.
I'm just so excited after wearing nothing but clothkits as a kiddywink

OP posts:
Nbg · 24/02/2008 15:59

I honestly thought they would be a bit cheaper than that.

I'll probably buy one though anyway

meridian · 24/02/2008 17:45

pmsl thats too funny LK... so]unds like something that would happen here.. though minus the sewing bit...

did i mention the other day DH nocked the red food colour off the shelf then decided to play a parank on me and pretend that he was cut? he dribbled it all over his arm and was going "ow ow ow. oh fu*k." I wasn't that amused.. that is till he tried to wash it off and it wouldn't his arm was red for 2 days. I wonder if he will learn

gingermonkey just got off the phone to my mom and she was completlely gushing about the pug you made! its got pride of place on this antique rocker in her bedroom, she loves it to bits... and apparently Niko the pug covets it fiercely too.

Whizzz · 24/02/2008 18:29

Well I did the craft fair & it was as expected - badly advertised, unruly kids running amok & hardly any sales. I did cover the cost of the stall + some more though - so I'm happy to be honest. The nicest thing was a lady who bought off me last year, coming back & buying another lariat as she liked the last one so much

Whilst I was sat pondering I came up with a few 'Craft Fair Rules':-

Set up a 2 metre exclusion zone around your table for kids eating fairy cakes
Superglue the tablecloth to the table, as even with a 2mm overhang someone will still manage to push past & take the cloth with them
Watch out for bored blokes in 'car coats' - the coats are just the right length to brush past & take half your stock with them
The answer to "Do you make them yourself?" is "No, I find them in the street" (well what do you think?)
If you want to sell out fast - bake cakes
