The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

Aww, thank you for your lovely comments. ☺️
For anyone interested, I adapted a Debbie Shore pattern.

I’m also feeling v. excited because I’ve just ordered the Bernette b79 sewing machine. I really want to add more embroidery to projects and this is a combined sewing/embroidery machine.

Yesterday’s sleeve/cuff project. I cut off the roll up cuff on a cheapy linen shirt and added a new cuff from an off-cut of Liberty fabric someone gave me ages ago. I also added machine embroidery stitches to the collar and cuff and I think it will look much fancier now, when it’s been ironed. 😂

Some amazing work here!

I’ve finished my Barrett bralette and it’s my best yet. Should be I suppose as it’s my 4th.

Next up is an outfit for a 70th party in a couple of weeks. I’m considering a few patterns I already own but I’m dithering about a Sauvie.

Then I need to plan something for a wedding in August. At least I have sorted the shoes.

@pastabest OMG you absolute genius. That's it! I spent HOURS over the last few days looking at every indie pattern company I could think of, googling, searching my search history.... thank you SO MUCH.

@SewinginIreland that is one of the best things I've ever seen!

Ooooh I love it when I get it right!

You were in luck as I spent a long time looking at blouses before picking the forget me not adeline and your excellent description rang a bell. Although I didn't know its name off the top of my head I knew exactly where I had seen it (The Foldline as it happens @NutellaEllaElla Grin) so it only took a minute to locate it.

@SewinginIreland my kids would 'LITERALLY DIE' (said the nearly 7 yo) for that house!

kittykarate · 23/04/2023 17:19

I finished off the cursed dress ( photos when I get round to ironing) and started the toile for my Saugauro set.

NutellaEllaElla · 23/04/2023 18:08

Ooh enjoy making the Saguaro kitty, I did even with my slippy fabric.

I've just this minute finished making my Eve dress by Sew over it. It was a lovely make, went really quite well (though i'm a bit cursed with catching tiny folds in for some annoying reason. Unfortunately the front edge of the wrap has a tendency to flip open, revealing the overlocked inside edge. It's rather annoying. I used an edge foot which only stitched around 3mm from the edge rather than the 5mm specified in the instructions, could that be it??

Good god I'd be the person stapling up a hem as I can't sew to a time deadline. "Sorry Patrick can you pop back next week, I'm so over doing this bias binding"

Jins · 24/04/2023 08:01

i get asked if I’d go on Sewing Bee all the time. It’s a definite no from me, especially with my sewjo the way it is. Apart from anything else I couldn’t cope with all the people in my sewing space

NutellaEllaElla · 24/04/2023 08:32

I'm a hard no too. I work slowly. The Eve dress says it should take a day and it took me 1.5. I can't sew without a pattern and when things get remotely difficult I walk away for sometimes a week or two 😄

dress of doom! In the Folds Ronnie is the pattern, which is actually quite nice.

If you're on the Minerva mailing list - there's a free Simplicity buffet dress pattern to download.

Jins · 24/04/2023 10:34

I saw that pattern this morning but I’m uncertain about it. Last year I couldn’t download it quick enough and I love the dress I made.

I do like a buffet dress though 🤣

Chewbecca · 24/04/2023 11:42

Does that mean it has an ever expanding elasticated waistband?

GnomeDePlume · 24/04/2023 12:21

It would also need deep pockets for cutlery, napkins etc

dubyalass · 25/04/2023 06:47

I've had people say I should be on sewing bee too but there's no way. I'd be out first for swearing rather than bad sewing, and wouldn't be able to cope with the pressure.

I get you!

On sewing bee you never see someone watching the same 2 minute youtube video 300 times trying to work out how to get a tricky bit of facing to lie flat! Then giving it up and watching Vera for an hour.

dubyalass · 25/04/2023 07:24

Exactly! I get flustered at the smallest things. I'd be ugly crying over melted interfacing within the first five minutes 😂 I'll keep it as an enjoyable hobby where nobody can see me raging over wonky topstitching thanks 😁

pastabest · 25/04/2023 20:43

When IS sewing bee starting again? Everyone's been saying April but April is rapidly disappearing?

kittykarate · 25/04/2023 20:52

They're reshowing season 8 from next Monday on bbc2, so I guess maybe after that.

SBAM · 25/04/2023 21:20

Adding myself to the list of ‘would never go on the sewing bee’ - in one way it’s a shame as it looks like the contestants build a lovely bond with each other, but sewing is my leisure activity, I’m not interested in timing, televising or monetising it in any way.

Im beginning to think of summer sewing, and I think a jumpsuit will be next on my list.

GnomeDePlume · 26/04/2023 07:12

Jumpsuit sounds interesting. Have you made one before?

My next make is going to be the last of the five dresses I promised to make for DD. This last one is a cotton linen mix. I need to think if gathering the skirt will work or whether pleats would be better.

Jins · 26/04/2023 08:03

I’m dithering about the latest True Bias dress
https://truebias.com/products/lora-dress

Part of me thinks this would be perfect for the august wedding I’m invited too, part of me thinks it’s mutton dressed as lamb and part of me is trying to ignore the fact that I’m several sizes bigger and several inches shorter than the model.

I haven’t found an example of a short, broad-shouldered, apple shape wearing it yet.

Lora Dress

The Lora pattern is an empire waist dress with four views. All views have underbust gathers, a self-lined bodice, and twelve loop buttons along the center front. Views A and C have half-inch spaghetti straps at the shoulders while Views B and D have lo...

That very much describes me and I'm afraid to say I wouldn't touch this style with a barge pole. I'd end up looking like Mrs Patmore from Downton Abbey had forgotten to put her skirt and pinny on!

NutellaEllaElla · 26/04/2023 20:33

Gosh it is a beautiful dress though

SBAM · 27/04/2023 07:41

@GnomeDePlume I’ve been tinkering with the Peppermint In the Folds jumpsuit pattern, I’ve given out a bust adjustment and turned the neckline into a scoop not a v-neck, so that’s first on the list. I’ve got the Ava jumpsuit pattern which was free with a magazine last year. I’m also (a million years late to the party) eyeing up the Zadie and the Sirocco.

@Jins its a beautiful dress, but I always like to see real photos appear on Instagram instead of just the modelled shots for the pattern. I imagine the sleeves could be quite overwhelming depending on the fabric and print. It’s a shame there’s no intermediate option between string straps or enormous sleeve.
