The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

I’m still dithering and will continue to dither until the discounted price ends. I like the strappy version but I love the balloon sleeve version.

SewinginIreland · 27/04/2023 07:46

@Jins It’s a lovely dress.

Why not try making a toile first and keep the top half as it is then allow the fabric to drape softly over the waist and hips rather than fitted in tight at the waist, so it’s A-line from under the bust?

I’d maybe also add a couple of tiers to the skirt or at least one at the bottom to keep with the current trend for gypsy style skirts. I think that would suit the sleeves too.

I fixed the issue with my Eve dress by the way so i'm very happy to have a new me made dress to take with me on holiday.

I am thinking of making some split leg trousers. I was thinking that I could just use my Rose pants pattern but hem the side seams instead of sewing them up? Would I have to add seam allowance?

I'm dithering over what to make actually. It's a leaf fabric, mostly green on a black background.

Anyway, does anyone know a pattern like this but perhaps without the waistband like that? I don't know it just looks a bit clunky to me?

I succumbed and bought the Lora pattern. I’m going to make the short strappy sundress and see how I feel. I do like True Bias patterns though - Ogden I’m thinking of you

I've got a pattern for something very similar, the Sinclair Zoe dolman sleeve dress. It has a drawstring waistband. I haven't made it though.

NutellaEllaElla · 28/04/2023 15:54

Not that you'll need it I'm sure but True Bias are advertising to me on Instagram that they are doing a Lora sewalong from the 8th.

I’ve just printed the pattern so if I take as long to stick them together as I usually do I might be ready for it 🤣

It looks reasonably straightforward. I’ll do a toile of the bodice though!

Sew House Seven have a sale so I’ve bought the Sauvie sundress which I’ve been thinking about for ages but decided against as it’s very similar to a paper pattern I bought last year. A few others were tempting but I managed to resist

Chewbecca · 01/05/2023 10:27

I'm starting Sauvie, cutting out the pattern, choosing fabric & pinning this week I think. The pattern has a line on it where you adjust the length thankfully but I am still faffing over how long.

supadupapupascupa · 01/05/2023 16:30

I've finally finished two dresses. Both were "finished" during lockdown but problems with them meant I would wear them.
So I have raised a shoulder on one to get rid of a neckline gape, and I have raised the front waist seam to be an empire line one on another.
2 dresses!
Very pleased

kittykarate · 01/05/2023 18:54

I finished my Sagauro set toile. Thank goodness I did a test drive - the top was not so much flirty as "Hello I'm helga your barmaid - have you seen the size of my steins?"

I'm was feeling a bit down in the dumps tonight and that has just made me absolutely cackle.

That is EXACTLY what I would imagine I would look like in the Saguaro.

Which reminds me ... the Guthrie Ghani insta live hopefully will be starting in a few mins (Lauren's a big Saguaro fan!).

Always a treat on a Monday evening!

NutellaEllaElla · 03/05/2023 07:42

Yes the Saguaro top is a bit obscene and bugs me no end that it reveals my bra.

I spent yesterday evening at the creative textiles group that I'm a member of. So relaxing to sit with a group of people sewing bunting for an exhibition we're holding while chatting about all things needlework.

NutellaEllaElla · 03/05/2023 09:45

Ah that sounds lovely. I'm booked into my first sewing social group later this month. Unfortunately it will be the last as the provider is closing.

I made this, erm, rustic set of dungarees. I thought about redoing the wonky pocket but the rest of it is so bonkers I just decided to leave it and pretend I meant it like that.
I can wear it for work and it'll do just fine.

Love it and anyway, Wonky is the new Black! 😂

kittykarate · 03/05/2023 11:09

I faffed around with the Sagaura top a bit and it's much less tit flashy. I cut off the ties and then hand sewed up the cross over so it didn't gape. Next time it will be 2 inches longer and a FBA

And as part 'planning for Christmas' my offcuts from the fabric have been turned into quickie gift bags to make wrapping things faster.

NutellaEllaElla · 03/05/2023 17:36

Oh you are very forward thinking there, very good.

OP posts:
MissMarplesNiece · 04/05/2023 12:26

@kittykarate That's such a good idea. Are you making them different sizes incase you buy different size gifts? The bags will be so useful afterwards too.

kittykarate · 04/05/2023 12:55

I'm sure you're all imagining something way fancier than this - they are just 'shoe bag' style bags with a ribbon closure. Random sizes as it's governed by what lumps of fabric are left over. The left hand one is just about big enough for a bottle of wine.

I did do Japanese Knot Bags last year. NEVER AGAIN. Far too labour intensive.

Saunaandsteam · 05/05/2023 09:42

@kittykarate I love your outfit and bags. I have made and used fabric bags for presents for a few years now, they are nowhere as good as yours, but are AMAZING for wrapping gifts, saves so much time and look very nice under the tree.
