The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

I did bound seams in a corduroy jacket I made a few years ago. Love them! It's such a pretty finish.

I love a nice seam finish. I’ve even french-seamed arm holes in the past! 😁

I’ve been wrestling with my redrafted Ogden cami over the weekend. I clearly made a mistake when cutting my (viscose) fabric as the lining lines up perfectly on one side, but is a complete mess on the other. Not sure I can motivate myself to finish it. Ugh!

Meanwhile I’ve started planning a Deer and Doe Melilot. I’ve had the pattern for a few months, but mentally filed it in the “more complicated than I feel like” folder. Having had another look at it, the short sleeved version actually looks much simpler than I remembered, so now I just need to find some nice fabric to make it in. I want something with a bit of drape, but not so much that cutting out becomes a nightmare. May be some kind of cotton & viscose blend? 🤔

@DollyParkin and @SBAM thank you, I didnt know that! That's the thing about sewing - everything has a name.

I would do it again for something like a jacket. It wasnt difficult.

I’ve even french-seamed arm holes in the past!

I tend always to use a French seam on shirt armholes, and then sew it flat, like a flat-fell seam. But it's easy to do if you sew shoulders first (and French seam or flat fell them, then attach the sleeve to the arm scye, THEN sew up side seams of body & sleeve of shirt, all in one go. That can be an easy to do French seam as well.

If I'm not lining a dress or top with sleeves, I do tend to run a bias binding around the arm hole - it makes a really neat finish, and it's smooth to wear. With summer dresses with sleeves, for example, I'll often line just the bodice, but not the sleeves, so I finish the armhole seam with a satin bias binding. It' makes it very neat & easy to wear.

New thread hurrah!

I did flat-felled seams on the Closet Core Kalle top but it didn't really work with the curve into the sleeve. What's the best seam type to use on a curve?
