The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

Hellooooo

yes working much better for me thanks

another great title!

I've just taken delivery of some lovely extremely soft waxed fabric from an outlet that I suspect is actually Barbour fabric so I'm now dreaming of a lovely waxed coat with a patterned quilted lining as my next project.

SBAM · 14/01/2023 12:04

Ooh @pastabest that sounds lovely. I know if I bought something like that I’d be too scared to cut into it - well done on being braver than me!

Next up on my list is either a new sweatshirt for me, sweatshirts for my children, a linen jumpsuit or getting on with the lander pants. I’ve got the pattern half cut out but got no further.

Craftybodger · 14/01/2023 12:24

Placemarking and procrastinating.

Cerise jumbo cord arrived yesterday - that one’s easy, it’s going to be another Helen’s Closet York Pinafore.

Red heart alpine fleece from Jenny Stitches also arrived yesterday, might be a Hot Coffee or maybe a cardigan? All washed and ready to cut, once I’ve decided!!

[whispers] it was £6 a metre and I got plenty to spare.

it's actually cheaper than the 'practice' fabric that I made what I will now consider to be a wearable toile of the same pattern last spring so I'm not going in unprepared!

what jumpsuit pattern are you thinking of using? I've made several Zadies, I love them!

kittykarate · 14/01/2023 17:46

Checking in. No sewing planned for me, might repurpose a dress as a tshirt as I never felt happy wearing it.

Isabelle70 · 14/01/2023 22:53

I picked up a Liberty wash bag from eBay and managed to track down the matching tana lawn fabric so I am going to make one of those lay flat scrunch up make up bags.
Hopefully a few YouTube videos will point me in the right direction.
I also have 2 footstools to cover in fabric to match the sofas and will have to brush up on my piping skills.

Thanks for the new thread - great punning Smile
I ended up having a sewing day after weeks of putting it off. My Fibremood cords are nearly done, save the pockets and hemming the trousers. Oh and a button. I'm hoping to get them finished today.

I may regret leaving the pockets till the end but I read a few reviews where the pattern placement for them wasn't that flattering so thought I'd leave it till I could try them on. I probably should have sewn them anyway and unpicked them if that was the case. I've learned a lot in this project.

I also need to hand sew bits and pieces as well to make the insides neater. They are a bit messy but better done than perfects as they say.

Hello, thanks for new thread.
My sewing prospects are limited to stage cloths and curtains for the next few weeks, I'll have to take the sewing machine to the scout hut to get enough space to manhandle all the fabric, it's a big project but just one straight (if 30ft) line.

pastabest · 15/01/2023 17:37

I would love to do theatre/play clothes! Is it a stage curtain you are making?

InMySpareTime · 15/01/2023 17:46

Yes, a back cloth for a full stage, with silver plasticky foil strips hanging from a top band of tabs. It's for a "Hollywood" scene.

That sounds interesting. So you tend to make costumes from scratch or adapt bought clothes?

I've made a toile of the Sew over it Kate dress this weekend, expecting to make loads of adjustments, but it fits perfectly - wish I'd used nicer fabric and matching thread now so I could wear it.

InMySpareTime · 15/01/2023 21:38

I don't make the costumes (though another volunteer does), I'm stage crew so I make the set. It involves a surprising amount of fabric though as we have canvas backdrops and back cloths.

dubyalass · 15/01/2023 21:52

Yay, shiny new thread! I’m not doing any sewing at the moment as everything is in boxes (moving later this week), just knitting for now.

I’m watching Cathcrafts’ video about her 2022 Make Nine and I realised that I have no sewing plans aside from making the Jarrah sweater for a friend. There are a couple of blouse patterns I want to make, and I quite fancy the Mitchell trousers. But I haven’t given it any thought beyond that.

Got some chairs that I want to reupholster so am perusing options, but there won’t be any sewing, just stapling!

GnomeDePlume · 16/01/2023 14:22

@pastabest any chance you could let me know where you got the waxed cotton please? DS wants me to make him a rain cloak (for re-enactment).

Waistcoat for DSiL finished. He is a trainee maths teacher.

Next make is a dress for DD from the Ahead of The Curve book which she gave me for Christmas. Toile first in calico. If we can get it to a decent fit and it doesn't look too beaten up I will dye it.

Certainly, it's this one

www.pennineoutdoor.co.uk/ps71-retro-waxed-cotton-british

Still 52m of it left. Its really lovely and lightweight but only available in navy.

GnomeDePlume · 16/01/2023 17:00

Thank you @pastabest sadly the wee lad wants green of some sort

NutellaEllaElla · 16/01/2023 17:20

Ooh @dubyalass Have you done reupholstering before? It's very satisfying. DH and I did 10 dining chairs that were gifted to us. It was going to cost £85 a chair to have it done professionally! Madness! It was fun and straightforward. Though not without multiple minor injuries.

@GnomeDePlume well done on that marvellous waistcoat! Lucky lad.

@Jins, calling Jins, I hope you're ok!

Hi all! It’s been ages I know.

No real sewing or plans for it here. I’ve had flu and I’m only just recovering. Since I last posted I’ve been repairing chairs in our village hall - no fun at all, and turned a women’s onesie into a pair of PJ trousers for DS1.

I’m busy looking through my patterns and stash to make a plan for the year. I need a gothy outfit for a gig in February for starters.

Now going back to see what you’ve all been up to

chocciechocface · 16/01/2023 17:43

Just stumbled across this thread ... new to joining crafting chat on MN. I'm currently trying to finish off a shawl I'm knitting, but I really want to make myself some nice long maxi skirts.

I can't find a pattern I like though. I'm wanting it to be fitted over hips then flaring out a bit wider than a normal a-line. I might have to try adjust a pattern and make atoile first.

I also fancy that Draper's Daughter pinafore ... and the top they feature with it.

SBAM · 16/01/2023 18:24

@chocciechocface welcome to the thread!
Have you seen the Sewaholic Gabriola I made one years ago and it was beautifully swishy, sadly I think I binned it as I was a bit chunky for it post baby. I’ll have to make another as it was lovely to wear.

@pastabest im tempted by the wax cotton and I don’t need it at all. I’ve got yards and yards of fabric and never enough time so I’ll sit on my hands until the buying urge passes.

@GnomeDePlume fantastic waistcoat, I hope he loves it!

@dubyalass good luck for the move!

@Jins glad you’re on the mend 💐

@NutellaEllaElla £85 a chair! I’d have done it myself too (well, more likely made DH do it, I don’t trust myself with a staple gun)

dubyalass · 16/01/2023 19:14

@SBAM thanks! Can't wait to set up my sewing corner 😁

@NutellaEllaElla I started another chair but never finished it. These should be a bit easier but I've already shredded my hands moving stuff so what's a few more minor injuries??

lndnbrdge91 · 16/01/2023 19:22

Hi all, can I join in?
I have just finished a beach dress/kaftan for my daughter. She has asked for a matching tote bag, I have some fabric left but will have to make it up with some scraps.

I have recently found a really good fabric shop near where I live, so have a few items lined up for 2023.

The lay flat and then scrunch up make up bag sounds like a really good idea!

dubyalass · 16/01/2023 19:25

Hello! Joiiiiiin uuuuus, we will be the worst pattern and fabric-buying enablers 😁

I think that's perfect, you clever thing. I'm going to have a good look tomorrow. Fingers crossed I have some fabric in my stash.

GnomeDePlume · 17/01/2023 13:36

I have now discovered that the monsoon cape DS wants me to make was made in duck canvas. We can get that easily enough. I can see this being another heavy lifting make!
