The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

just put on an item I've made fresh out of the wash and was mortified to find it has come apart at the seams in a few places. It's about the 3rd time it's been washed.

Was cursing myself for perhaps not leaving enough of a seam but on looking my seams are fine it's the bloody maraflex thread I used... its just vanished in those parts! No idea what's happened there.

its only taken me a few minutes to overlock it back together where needed but a little annoying.

I assume it will be user error in some way like the stitch lengths being wrong or I've not back stitched properly. Grr

NutellaEllaElla · 15/04/2023 17:26

Wow i've not heard of that before!

@pastabest how frustrating! Is maraflex the stretchy stuff?

dubyalass · 15/04/2023 23:22

Halfway through another pair of Megan Nielsen Ash jeans. I've been a bit slapdash with the topstitching in places but it'll only be me who notices. Done French seams for the first time on the pocket bags and flat fell seams on the yoke - not sure if they'll work on the inner seams too.

There's an Instagram blouse challenge in April so I fancy trying another McCall's 7899, probably in the next size up and a bit longer.

Dress is all cut out and I have started finishing the fabric edges. One pile of pattern pieces ready to go.

I'm looking for a beginner-ish friendly wrap dress pattern for woven fabrics. Anyone know of one?

I have a book by Juliet Uzor (sewing bee winner 2019) which contains a wrap dress pattern with grown on sleeves.

The book is aimed at new sewers.

Well i've bought it after seeing it all over instagram and pattern review. Fingers crossed it arrives soon and for it to be a lovely sew!

Oh the impatience in waiting for printed patterns to arrive. Still, I swore I'd never cut and tape paper together again after too many misalignment nightmares. I've spent a relaxing afternoon watching the sew a long.

It's a lovely dress & should look good in a satin fabric. Have you bought your fabric yet?

NutellaEllaElla · 17/04/2023 11:43

Yes, I've got a few pieces that I've been trying to find the perfect pattern for. I'm a bit hesitant as satin has such a bad reputation for being so difficult to sew with but I've already got it so I'm going to have to give it a go! At least having a good pattern might help. I'm also nervous about the neckline gaping as I've done a wrap top before that I struggle to wear for this reason.

Hello everyone. I had a good day of sewing today. Slow and steady as is my way but it was enjoyable. I'm using a fabric I bought in Mood, New York which is exciting. I don't know what it is made of but you can't unpick it as it just makes holes so I hope I don't make any big mistakes.

I ordered a printed pattern from The Fold Line on Wednesday and it arrived today, b quick. It’s the Sew House Seven Sauvie sundress. I’m bothering about how to get the length right because of the vents. I’m doing my weekly dressmaking class again so will get help there and learn something!

I am now, finally nearly finished my Merchant and Mills Factory dress. I really like it but It’s not as generous round the bust as I expected, and I thought I was being generous! I wonder if I overdid the seams and overlocking. It’s only a teeny bit snug, a diet might be easier!

youmustbemad · 21/04/2023 22:56

Oh wise sewists of mumsnet. I need help. I'm trying to find a pattern that I wanted to buy but now can't remember the name or the pattern company. It was a blouse, fitted with short ruffle sleeves with quite a bit of volume I think. V-neck with a placket that went all the way around the neck. I think maybe a peplum bottom half, and I'm nearly sure only a waist dart, no bust dart. I can't find it. It's driving me insane. I think the sample was sewn in a light colour, maybe striped?
Please can anyone help?

Hmmm

How To Do Fashion NO. 9 Rønne Top?

pastabest · 22/04/2023 09:12

I quite like the look of that one myself but should probably make my Forget Me Not Adeline first!

NutellaEllaElla · 22/04/2023 09:42

@youmustbemad could you search your internet history to try to see where you found it before?

I can post pictures of my most recent favourite project now it’s been handed over to the recipient (my lovely granddaughter).

I altered the original pattern by adding thin soft Velcro to the sides so that it can be opened out and folded completely flat for travelling.

I used a fancy stitch on my sewing machine to make the roof tiles on the yellow roof.

I’m currently upcycling some of my existing summer linen and cotton shirts by removing the fold up cuffs and sewing a bright patterned cuff onto them.

That's brilliant!

NutellaEllaElla · 22/04/2023 12:19

How did you do that? That's amazing, you clever thing! She must be delighted with it, it's adorable.

dubyalass · 22/04/2023 14:32

That's fantastic! Well done you, I bet she's made up!

GnomeDePlume · 22/04/2023 21:38

That is lovely @SewinginIreland I am very impressed!

A sewing afternoon for me. Dress #4 for DD. Just need to finish the seams on the sleeves & skirt then all done. She is down here next weekend so I dont need to post it which saves a bob or two.

We need to have a chat about dress #5 as I dont think it will gather well (linen). I am wondering how the dress will look with pleats instead.

youmustbemad · 23/04/2023 01:02

@pastabest OMG you absolute genius. That's it! I spent HOURS over the last few days looking at every indie pattern company I could think of, googling, searching my search history.... thank you SO MUCH.

@SewinginIreland that is one of the best things I've ever seen!

NutellaEllaElla · 23/04/2023 09:00

A better resource than the Fold line is our @pastabest 😁
You'll have to let us know how it goes @youmustbemad

It's going to be a rainy day here today so I'm watching the marathon while pinning a sleeve in place. It's always tricky for me.
