The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

That's how I thread mine. Doesn't always work but worth a try.

I have a sewing day planned for tomorrow - very excited!

Dress number 3 for DD is cut out and fabric edges are finished. Time to start sewing.

very jealous. I'm getting my haircut and coloured for the first time in months next week so might try and update the old insta with some of the stuff I've made.

I'm still in inertia about my next project.

GnomeDePlume · 07/04/2023 12:09

My accompanying entertainment is the latest Unforgotten.

So far darts are sewn and bodice is sewn together. I'm now on sleeves.

GnomeDePlume · 08/04/2023 06:54

Bodice and skirt are now sewn together.

Not sure if I will get thrown out of the sewing circle for this, I gather each panel of the skirt separately rather than trying to gather it as a single piece.

The zip is in. I still can't get the hang of invisible zips. If anyone knows a good video for this I will be very grateful.

Wow, you’ve been very busy @GnomeDePlume !

I’ve been in a real sewing slump lately, but after being hounded by adverts on MN for this £55 t-shirt (😮), I decided to make my own! Apart from the price, the t-shirt on the advert would never work for me as it’s way too short and boxy. For £55 I’d want absolute t-shirt perfection.

I used New Look 6216 and splashed out on some fancy jersey to create a version that actually works for my body at just over half the price, including the cost of the pattern. I feel like I’m winning.

(Photo is from the advert, my own top looks like a rag in comparison which I’m sure the original would do too without studio lighting 😄)

Disaster day cutting out for me, I've lost a pattern piece and the cut out material of that pattern piece. Doofus.

Oh no! Have you put it in with your scraps? Is the pattern piece still pinned to it? If not has the pattern floated under something - sofa, wardrobe, sideboard?

@CrimsonAlligator well done on t-shirt making. I haven't dared try knitted fabrics yet.

Dress for DD is now finished. I still can't get the hang of zips!

I beat the inertia but not the willpower not to make another sirocco jumpsuit.

This one is in a blue floral dashwood jersey. Sadly I can ready tell its not going to wash well though. The colour is fading just from wearing it!

Looks pretty for spring while it lasts though and I might make a matching headband.

Has your pattern piece turned up yet @kittykarate? Is it a major bit or could something be bodged?

kittykarate · 10/04/2023 17:35

Pattern piece hasn't reappeared but luckily it should be bodgeable. It was just the end of a tie belt. It feels like this make is cursed.

SBAM · 10/04/2023 17:58

Happy Easter all!
I started the year so productive and now it’s really tailed off. I think now spring is truly sprung I need to get on with soem
bits for summer or I’ll never make them.

I have made most of the bodice for a party dress for 5yo DD - it’s in a pink sparkly stretch cotton jacquard (maybe - from one of my favourite bargain places in Walthamstow that often have sample pieces).

How do you find the fit of the Sirocco @pastabest - I’m very late to the party but like the look of it, though I’m concerned it wouldn’t flatter a podgy belly.

pastabest · 10/04/2023 19:19

I love the fit of the sirocco - I personally find it very flattering for my sticky out tum it cinches in at the waist and then is supposed to be flowy around the hip area which hides a multitude of sins.

I'm wearing my black one at the moment so may try and take a photo later.

GnomeDePlume · 10/04/2023 20:01

This is the dress I made for DD. It is the Cashmerette Honeybourne fitted to DD. Getting the fit right is flattering. The skirt is at just the right place for her and the bodice has a lot of dartage to get the right shape for her.

I've just designed/ordered myself a new mug with this Sharon Owens poem.

I'm very much going to enjoy drinking my tea out of it when it arrives.

The rest of the mug has a sewing needle and thread and an acknowledgement of the author.

GnomeDePlume · 11/04/2023 06:18

I like the poem and the sentiment. Quiet rebelliousness in pockets!

My next dress for DD will have pockets.

dubyalass · 12/04/2023 20:04

I love that poem.

I've almost finished the Closet Core Mitchell trousers. Just the final bits of hand sewing to do. Also made a Closet Core Kalle shirt which I love but if I want to make the dress or tunic version I will need to size up at the hip. Next is another pair of Megan Nielsen Ash jeans because all my jeans seem to have gone on the inner thigh at the same time 😬 I have definitely put weight on there recently and need to shed it again!

dubyalass · 12/04/2023 20:07

Forgot to add: the Mitchell trousers are a lovely sew, but I'm not 100% convinced by the waistband - if you need to pull the straps tighter then the front gets a bit skewed. Some additional interfacing might sort that, or perhaps a more structured fabric is necessary (or both). I really enjoyed making them though, and there's some lovely touches in the design.

pastabest · 12/04/2023 20:21

Oooh the Kalle shirt is on my list of things I love the look of and really want to sew but I'm pretty sure will look awful on me.

A bit like the Arthur trousers and every Merchant and Mills pattern ever made.

dubyalass · 12/04/2023 21:49

The Kalle is really flattering - you should give it a try! I made a few mistakes with it but am still pleased with how it turned out.

Jins · 13/04/2023 08:35

Well I’m back in the sewing chair. Starting easy with a Barrett bralette because the three I made last year are getting a bit tired.
Next up will have to be either a dress or a top for a party on 6th May (not a coronation party and needs something smarter than I normally wear)

kittykarate · 13/04/2023 12:35

To continue with my cursed make - one of the cats has just pulled the tie belt down from where it was stashed, and then threw up on it. I still have the interfacing to do on the neck band.

GnomeDePlume · 13/04/2023 16:22

@kittykarate now that is just plain rude of the cat!

NutellaEllaElla · 15/04/2023 07:53

Hello everyone, glad to see you're back in the sewing chair Jins Smile.
Haha, there's something about that tie belt @kittykarate isn't there? Cats know best.

I think i'm abandoning the toile i've been making. I've all but finished it but the fit is atrocious. I think it's my fault because I wanted it to be something it isn't so it hasn't worked out how I hoped. Now i'm looking for inspiration for what to make out of some blue and white striped ribbed type fabric.

Good morning!

I am going to be starting dress#4 today. This is the fun one in a shocking pink batik print with pockets!

I am now the proud owner of an overlocker so once cutting out is done the next job will be finishing the fabric edges. Having got into the habit of doing this I am finding the fabric pieces easier to handle.

Jins · 15/04/2023 11:12

I’m really, and I mean really lazy and I’ve never overlocked pattern pieces before sewing. I use the overlocker to trim and neaten excess seam allowance once I’m happy that a seam is done. Usually I overlock each side of the pressed seam but occasionally I’ll overlock the two together. I might give it a try as the next project will be using some fiendish viscose that looks like it will fray.

I'm going to go with a tried and trusted top for the party to reduce faffing around fitting a new style. Probably the Rhapsody with a sleeve this time. If I have time I’ll make some slim leg trousers out of some beige stretch woven that’s been hanging around for too long.
