I'm doing a three part Pooh Bear for dd. It's only the second one I've done and the first I started 5 years ago, put in a drawer and finished it off a couple of months ago.

have you tried these

not quite the same as cross stitch but highly addictive- take ages to do so will keep you occupied for ages and they look fab at the end of it.

Very impressive - I have been known to do the odd sampler - last one I did was for DS2's christening robe which was nearly a year ago so I should really do something else soon! I was going to say I can't seem to find the time anymore but, like yurtgirl, I do find myself on MN quite often so that's obviously where the time has gone! However, I need an occasion to do a cross stitch!

wow i didn't know others were into this too!

Its my secret hobby, too embarrassed to admit to it normally as i feel like an old fart doing it! It is addictive, i spend months doing it every night, and then months where i don't touch it - i think i overdose on it!

But you have inspired me to get it out again!

Not done it for a while but do enjoy it - find it very relaxing. Even my 22yo sister does it to relax after work too - she's just bought a Disney Beauty and the Beast one to do a pciture for DD's room when we move. Think I might have to buy a new one actually.

My name is Cadbury and I'm a cross-stitcher. I haven't picked up my frame for a few weeks now but I will again soon. 2 Years ago, I did cross stitch pictures for my whole family. It took all year. The one of Hong Kong harbour for my folks took 6 months. Of course, that was before I had discovered mumsnet and I had free time!

I've been doing squircles recently. I've done the cross-stitcher for my mum (must run in the genes, lol), the cricket for my dad (hasn't played cricket for years but they don't do one for a boring old f*rt who sits in a chair with a remote control in his hand ), footballer for nephew and have just started the horserider for my niece. Will be giving them at Christmas.

I go through phases where I'll cross-stitch like mad every evening, then put it down and not pick it up for weeks, and then the cycle starts over again.

You make me feel very guilty. DS has a lovely birth sampler in his room. DD has hers still in the packet, unopened in my treasure chest of craft goodies!She is now 3!!
Perhaps after Xmas,,,got to make all my cards yet!

I recently finished DD2's birth sampler (she's 2.5) but haven't had it framed yet. But don't feel so bad Dingle - my stepmum (who was a home economics teacher) started working on one for my half sister when she was pregnant with her, and still hasn't finished it yet. Said sister is about to turn 21!

I also go in phases. I'll go a few months when I will do an hour or two every night while watching TV, but then for some reason I'll stop. I think I stopped a couple of months ago because all the new autumn TV shows came on, but at the moment there's not much on TV and I haven't got back into it yet.

I'm working on an embellished cross stitch, where the painting is already printed on the fabric, and you just stitch in certain areas of it.

Another X-stitcher calling in here! I also go in phases and am currently unproductive, though I need to get stitching asap to do a small picture for dd's teacher who is leaving at the end of term. My biggest WIP is the Taj Mahal, which ds2 and I visited about 6yrs ago. I also made a Judaic wedding sampler for ds1. My one gripe is the cost of framing. I diy, using ready-madet frames when I can but that's only possible for standard sizes, unfortunately.

PS I also do needlepoint, anyone else into that?

I used to do it a lot - but haven't for years - maybe one day when I have more time. The best thing I ever did was a picture of 2 herons silhoueted (sp ?) in black against a red/orange sunset !

Must be something about cross stitching that makes us do it all the time for months and then not touch it for ages!
The best one I ever did (even if I say it myself ) was a traditional Victorian type sampler I did for my brother's wedding. I'd just bought a book on Victorian samplers and was inspired! Took me months to do, was huge and cost me £90 to get framed The most expensive wedding present I've ever given! But...they do have it hanging in pride of place in their house

Me too. I completed a huge picture of Coronation Street for my Nan, but have yet to finish my dd's sampler- she's 2.7.
I have recently been doing these for all my friends new babies. They have room for a little picture and name/dob and make a really nice and personal present, but only ake a couple of evenings to do.
